I wish I was taught this stuff years ago, my entire life as been distractions and maladaptive coping mechanisms. Helped me survive for years but the lack of processing and improvement recently resulted in self harm.

That sounds like what I learned in DBT. Some Distress Tolerance skills (using distractions being one of these) are meant to be used to tolerate a crisis. Me and other participants in my therapy group found that this can sometimes give us the break we need to ground ourselves before resorting to Emotional Regulation or Interpersonal Effectivenes skills. 😊

Hey Kati, could you make a video on how to cope with aging parents and dealing with death? The sight of seeing my father physicially and mentally getting older is making me extremely sad and i dont know how to handle it
