I used to think that “My family lives in a different state” meant a state like Wisconsin or Alaska. But after losing my little one, I now feel it more as a different state of being or life. After suffering a loss, even if it was inevitable or a blessing after a period of suffering, you can’t help but miss like hell little things about that person, like just seeing her face each and every day. We don’t have a reset button in life, no matter how loudly we beg for one. And so my family — my whole life as I knew it for all those years — lives on without me in a different state. One that I cannot visit until my time comes. Those that tell you to just “move on” don’t really get it; they cannot relate. You have to experience tremendous loss to know what it feels like. It’s lonely and heartbreaking, but I carry on each and every day, holding onto hope that one day, we will all be together in our new state. ❤

End of summer 2016. I spent 5 months working with a bunch of strangers in the middle of nowhere Alaska. We became a tight knit group of people all running from something, searching for something or trying to become something in the last frontier. The last night of the season, a bunch of us all mobbed out to a bar called The Spike which was a refurbished train car in the middle of the woods. The bartender put this song on before closing and every single one of us sang our hearts out.
That was the most alive I’ve ever felt and I miss it ever day..
