Lyrics:
Virginia don’t sound like she used to walking home late
Smoke in my lungs and whiskey burning in my veins
December wont be so forgiving
I’m haunted by a ghost of you and my past colliding
I can never go home

Wind in the night
Wind in the night
Thought that I heard you laughing
Wasn’t that you my darling

Virginia don’t sound like she used to
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
But I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her heart’s beating for me baby
Virginia don’t sound like she used to
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
But I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her heart’s beating for me yeah

Ive traveled all over in my life but nothing’s slowed me down
This place that I used to love well its just another town

Wind in the night
The wind in the night
Remember I caught you dancing alone in that first apartment

(Wind in the night)
Virginia don’t sound like she used to
(The wind in the night)
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
But I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her heart’s beating for me baby
(Wind in the night)
Virginia don’t sound like she used to
(The wind in the night)
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
But I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her heart’s beating for me yeah

I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her hearts beating for me yeah

Virginia don’t sound like she used to
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
I can feel a heart beating for me baby
Another heart beating for me yeah

(Wind in the night)
Virginia don’t sound like she used to
(The wind in the night)
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
But I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her heart’s beating for me yeah
(Wind in the night)
Virginia don’t sound like she used to
(The wind in the night)
Virginia don’t feel like she used to
But I can feel a heart beating for me baby
I know her heart’s beating for me yeah
Wind in the night
The wind in the night
Wind in the night
The wind in the night

That lost shot is brilliant. It’s so hard to watch our home towns change when our heart’s been there the whole time

This song lives in my head rent free. As someone who 'came home' after being away for so long, I've realized that things just aren't the same. "It's just another town." Nothing is like it once was... but I can't decide if that's because the place changed or because I changed.

I've lived in Richmond my whole life. There's a spiritual feeling to this song I can't describe.

How I Met Your Father brought me here. Awesome song!

How I met your father delivers just as excellently as its predecessor when it comes to soundtrack selection.

Heard this on the radio and instantly loved it!!! I think I’ve played it about 50 times already. I love the mix, the voices, the music - just all of it!!! It tugs at my heartstrings and I’ve never even been to Virginia. But we can all relate on some level in that our hometowns are just not the same anymore. It’s weird to go home and see so many changes. Regardless, this is one amazing, beautiful, heartfelt song. 💓💓💓💓

Can't stop listening to this unique, beautiful song. I was born in Virginia and left for awhile, eventually coming back. Just saw this band Saturday night (9-17-22) in Richmond. Great show!

In 2016, I moved back to my childhood home after living overseas in London for several years. The first time I heard this song, I became obsessed with it and did my usual thing of looking up the lyrics. That’s when I remembered y’all’s connection to VA/Richmond, and the song hit me a thousand times harder.

On the next play through, I found myself being moved to tears. I realized that I was mourning my life overseas and all the great friends I’d made, who I used to see every day (and are now 5, 000 miles away). Sure, I can FaceTime with them, but it’s not the same. I miss meeting them at the pub and being in the same room with them.

And the hometown I came back to was not the same place I’d left thirty years ago as a teenager. It felt empty, lonely, and unrecognizable. Even though it was my spiritual home, the whole city felt indifferent to me. Like it had moved on. All my old loves and memories were ancient history, and I was a stranger without a place to really call “home.”

Thank you guys for writing this piece. It’s moved me in a way a song hasn’t for a very long time.

This song was my most played this year and it helped me through one of the hardest times of my life. Here is my journal entry from earlier this year about this song:

“Virginia reminds me that everything is going to be okay. It reminds me of what I’ve gotten through and that the things that I thought would break me, didn’t. It reminds me of a time in my life where I didn’t know how I would continue to live, but I did.

When life gets tough, just remember, the wind is in the night.”
