Can you do a video about the law& driving hours, after a 2 hour drive then broken down waiting rescue&repair for 5 hours. How will this affect your driving hours plus another break down north of Watford gap driving back to yard.

Morning Pete. That’s a great explanation of drivers hours. I think you should keep them going as it’s important that drivers really understand the rules 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie 😎 Take care take money 💴 lol 😆

Hi Pete, back in the day we never used to run out of hours using the Analogue tachographs (Paper Cards) Run out of time just take one out and put another one in with a different drivers name on it, it's amazing how many names I had back in the day lol, the scary thing is it was common thing back then, I worked for companies that would expect you to do it to get the job done. Somerset House must have a melt down with all these drivers changing their names every 5 minutes....🤣🤣🤣

Good on ya pete .

The only thing i would add is if you find yourself unable to take a break before time take a print out at both the time you do make that break and also more importantly at the end of the shift . No need to eject your card by the way .

The reason you do 2 is because if DVSA stop you between the now late break and the end of the shift your in big trouble without that print out .
The reason you then print out a second time at the end of the shift is to show the late break wasnt the end of the drive so you didnt take the piss, ignoring your hours aiming to just drive back regardless ( another reason to not eject your card ) because thats very very naughty ... im not saying anything you rebel :-) .

Other thing is if anyone does say sod it and eject the card at some point the trucks going to be downloaded anyway so your vicious crime against humanity will be revealled ... and your TM will call you a vegetable .

You never guess what Pete? I was on the M1 south last night. Just passed Northampton services which southbound services being closed and I was in slow moving traffic and the front nearside tyre gone flat and almost ripped off. I was heading for Newport Pagnell services to stay in the hotel. But recovery brought me back to Northampton services northbound and no hotel here. So had to slum it in the back of the horse box which seems to be the best sleep I have had in a truck with king size bed above the cab and a kitchen sink and a toilet inside too.

I'm heading into Northampton town centre for 10.30am to get a bus to London and then a bus home. Leaving the truck here for the customer

Also you can use upto 2 hours extra driving hours in a week. To be owed back. Only to be used to get the driver back to the yard. Before driving the extra 2 hours and 30minute break must be taken followed by print out. Note on the back the reason for the extra driving hours.

The right course of action is to find a safe place to stop however you could remove the card and drive without it if you want to return to base but it's risky.

The best thing to do is to jack the job. It`s all about control, keeping hard working truck drivers under the thumb. Why would you make life so difficult for people that are so important in keeping a country operating? Instead of stupidly arcane hours rules, dangerous speed-limiters, the insane lack of drivers facilities & safe parking, why don`t the authorities spend a far bigger proportion of vehicle tax on our infrastructure to actually make the job tolerable?! There will always be a drivers shortage because in a word the job is crap.

If you started at say 6am Monday and work until Saturday-6 days .But have run out of time. You can have your 9 or 11 hour break and carry on as long as your parked up before the time you started on the Monday … ie 6 days in a 24 hour period as long as you make up your rest period by the 3rd week.

And that is exactly why I’m sticking with a 3.5T van

Morning Pete. Not sure if this might be an additional revenue stream for you.I’ve just suggested via Twitter to Truck and driver magazine whether “HGV buddy days” might be an opportunity. Why?I’m doing cpc end aug for 7.5t with a view to class 2 dec but have only driven 3.5t to date.Having the opportunity to be a passenger in a 7.5t and then a class 2 another day would increase the chance of passing my exams and the haulier would get...£49.99 per day?UK is desperate for truck drivers.Hauliers need money.Win win?depending on your personal view of covid risk and being in a cab with someone else all day of course.

If you had a sleeper cab for instance, would some companies ask you to sleep the night on the road?

Not strictly true.
I've taken tachograph out at night and in the morning put another in legally. The tachograph or digicard is YOUR record of work. Therefore if you leave that vehicle for whatever reason you must take your card or chart out of the vehicle. It is no longer under your control and this applies anywhere in the world. If you want to get a taxi to somewhere else for the night or even home, that is entirely up to you.
Further, the regulations stipulate that you be given extra time to move the vehicle to a place of safety. As happened to me when I had a tyre burst on the hard shoulder of the M40 and had to await assistance and repair, your not allowed to overnight on the hard shoulder so your allowed to move the vehicle to a place of safety whi includes a place where you can get refreshments and food and toilet even if it means going over the drivers working rules.

And the police will say

. You should have stopped earlier
No matter what you come across
Accident traffic jam
Maybe you have time to get loaded and you tell the customer
I must be out of here by a dertaian time which will give me 45 minutes to find parking they will hold you back deliberately

I was pulled by vosa once and when they read my card they spotted I’d driven 6 hours without a stop. I explained that I had a delivery to Leeds city centre that day, couldn’t park at the job and had driven round for a bit to find somewhere to park and couldn’t find anywhere so headed for the only place I knew which was a lay-by on wood head pass and rested there. Told them the address I delivered to and where the lay-by was and said the timings should confirm what I said. They excepted it and gave us a slap on the wrist after showing us the read outs on the computer. This is only because they could see that i was always within my timings and it was a one off and I’d written it down the day it happened.
