You don't ALWAYS want to cancel early it comes down to understanding when it is no longer getting value or when it can give you a jump on them.

When genji and reinhardt are meta is when the game is at its best

I wanna learn genji so bad because going against a good genji is so infuriating but he’s so hard and my aim is inconsistent 😭😭

Note: early deflect cancel doesn't work on idiots who just shoot anyway.

Tbh its fitting that for someone like genji, he isnt best played aggressively, you must be patient, "let your opponent cut your flesh, and you.will break his bones" is what i think the japanese saying is

deflecting poke is generally ok if you dont plan on going in after and are just working on blade

Short dashing should 100% been a tip even in low gm people will rarely do it

I like poke genii. If you annoy them enough they will eventually have to heal. In the instance (especially in low to mid SR) they will get distracted, forget/ lose sight of you. Then you can be a rat and sneak around to finish a kill or pick off unsuspecting players. Esstientually describing poke then dive. But with extra words and steps.

As a rein player when I play against gengu I often start a fire strike then throw it in to Narnia expecting gengu to try to deflect and waste a cool down for no value

You can also cancel blade if you dash when you have about hal a second of your ult left. Surprised most genji players don’t know this

As soon as I see a bastion I dive him, every time, if you attack him and do enough damage to bait the minigun, you can deflect All of it back(if they are bad) or save your deflect and bounce around them while hitting them with the spread shot, then dash through when they go to shoot at you and 180 reflect, they shoot at you immediately and either die to reflect or they are left one shot

I'm Diamond 1 and i play a lot of genji, so obviously I'm not the best of the best but I'd like to add some things:

He mentions managing your cooldowns in the short a little. Emphasize this more in your own gameplay on EVERY character and you will get better, but it is very important on Genji. Have intention and meaning behind every time you deflect and dash, and keep in mind you really can't engage well when either of those is on cooldown. You need both abilities up to effectively dive someone.

But dont just manage your own cooldowns, bait out and manage the ENEMY'S cooldowns. A one HP moira or reaper is meaningless if they still have their get-outta-jail-free cards up. The worst thing you can do is dash in to finish a kill, the enemy just uses a movement ability and you end up feeding.

Genji used to not be able to cancel deflect and because of that I constantly forget he can now

I'm a gm genji and always deflect orbs, fire strikes, etc if you have the chance to your whole goal as genji should be to build his ult as quick as possible the cool down is only 8 secs on deflect anyways so you'll definitely almost always have it back when you need it next
