My favorite genre of gaming has always been old school RPGs. Turned based combat and deep stories are so addictive, so this week we are looking at the greatest ones of all time. These are my picks of the TOP 10 Best JRPs EVER!

My personal favorite JRPGs (one per franchise only):
10. Lost Odyssey (my favorite Xbox 360 game)
9. Bravely Default (my second favorite RPG on the 3DS)
8. Persona 5 (I'm new to the series, but it really blew me away)
7. Dragon Ball Fusion (my favorite JRPG on the 3DS and one of the best DBZ games)
6. Pokemon Crystal (same reasons as Dreamcast Guy)
5. Xenogears (an excellent gem from the PS1 era of excellent JRPGs, despite the second half falling apart a bit)
4. Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door (easily my favorite Mario game of all time by a landslide)
3. Chrono Trigger (It's so legendary it speaks for itself)
2. Legend of Dragoon (the most criminally underrated game on the PS1 by a large margin and deserves a remasters desperately)
1. Final Fantasy IX (Dreamcast Guy nails it in his review of the PS4 version, but take everything he loved about it and amplify it 3x for me)

If you love JRPGs in any way you absolutely owe it to yourself to playthrough Falcom's Trails series, starting with the Trails in the Sky.
They have incredible world building, amazing characters, goat tier OSTs, fantastic story telling, 10/10 localizations (XSEED is boss) and extremely fun/deep combat systems.
The Trails games are just phenomenal and in my opinion the absolute BEST the genre has to offer. This series deserve soo much love.
I can't recommend the Trails games enough.

you never played persona 5 did you....your description is the exact oposite of how the game works your the ones 'stealling' hearts, specificly from evil people in order to make them confess there crimes.

I fell in love with Grandia on ps1, had the best and most fresh combat when it came out and the characters were great!

There are so many equally fantastic rpgs that it is very hard to make a top 10, but i can pick my top 3.

3. Xenoblade Chronicles
By far my favorite game of all time, i love everything about this game. The only issue i had with it was once i got to mechonis field it felt that all i did was battle and battle and battle for hours. I was exhausted by the time i got to the central arsenal.

2. Persona 5
I love the SMT battle system, and Persona 5 does it in a very fast paced and slick way. The dungeon design was one of The highlights for me, i love the way the look and i never got bored going through them)

1. Chrono Trigger
This game is absolutely timeless. The first time i played Chrono trigger was on the ps1 and not even the long loading times could keep me from enjoying every moment of it. There aren’t many rpgs that I’ve played that can compare to Chrono Trigger

Great list dude. Haven't played tactics ogre, vagrant story, paper mario at all, i have played but not beaten grandia 2 or skies of arcadia a little bit. I don't even know how do a top 10 lol, it will be full of FFs and Personas 3, 4, 5, oh and Chrono Trigger because they resonated with me a lot. Great pick on Fire Emblem Awakening, that game blew me away and i was already into FE in 2003 lol.

I was a dumbass and was friending for drugs so I sold my SoA port for GameCube at a local video game store for 30$. I just looked up the price online, it’s worth hundreds of dollars. Never even beat the game; I hate myself :(
