This list reminds me of one of the earliest rules I learned in video games: if you’re a good father, and not part of the main cast, chances are you’re gonna die and become part of the overarching revenge quest.

One reason I loved Final Fantasy xiii was because my son was born a few months before I started the game and I felt emotionally connected to Sazh and his journey to save his. My life has since mirrored his to some extent so that game and its soundtrack will always bring me back to happier times.

I’d also add Rei from Breath of Fire 3, although he’s more of a father figure to Ryu & Teepo. And Rab from Dragon Quest 11. Grandfathers should count too. Also, Riki from Xenoblade Chronicles and Sojiro from Persona 5.

I have only played the first Wild Arms, but they really ought to make more RPGs that let you use grappling hooks and such in the overworld for puzzles.
Papas definitely deserves #1, that shit is brutal.

Good to see Clive here, as he's one of my favorite characters. They're not party members but mad respect for Ryotaro Dojima and Sojiro Sakura from Persona 4/5.

Flint is an incredible character, I have seen people criticize Flint for being absent to Lucas, but considering everything that happens in his part of the story mode, the circumstances makes it understandable.

Happy to see Sazh here. I firmly dispute the “3 crappy games” point though. Loved 13-2 and am currently playing 13-3 and surprised at how much I’m enjoying it. I know 13 left a bitter taste in people’s mouths but the other 2 are so much better!
