Great series, with the rise of AI does it even make sense to become a graphics programmer? I'm actually switching fields and getting into computer graphics and learning with OpenGL has been great but somewhere feel doubts if I dont know... if its worth it?

I spent the last 4 months learning OpenGl, and do not like it. It is complicated, very hard to debug, the documentation is often bewildering and ambiguous, and the online resources are outdated. The only sign of improvement in it's design has been the DSA functions, but no tutorials use them except to demonstrate that they exist, despite being the superior option. I'm amazed people have created anything substantial with such an unwieldy API. I can only imagine that they must have learned from each other or something because it has been the worst thing I've tried to learn since I started programming. A real time and energy sucking endeavor.
