Push it further until it "clicks" and it wont wobble like that.

I remember wanting the SM7B so bad, went down to the store and they didn't have it. Went for the Stealth instead. I've been happy with it, but there is still something about the "tried and tested" SM7B that want's me to trade in for it one day.

Refreshingly honest review about this mic and good to know I'm not the only one who has issues with the gain!

Yess a thanks for an honest review. I had the stealth on loan for review some time ago, compared it to the SM7... sent straight back lol

Maybe it's just me, but I won the Stealth, and I honestly don't think it sounds worse than a SM7B. You need a huge amount of Gain for an SM7B, and depending on the preamp or gain source, that can get really noisey. I don't agree that it sounds thin, even V2. Having an increase in the higher end brings out clarity and opens a lot up. It's not just prescence that it adds, but it also adds air. Having no need for a cloudlifter or high gain preamp is part of what sold me on it (And getting it essentially new for $200, in box), but dear god you need the shockmount for it to be stable, and that's my major gripe.

The background music is superfluous. Why obscure a mic review with muzak? Anyway, I'm glad you stop the music, further into the review. And I very much appreciate the info you provide here. It's certainly a helpful and honest review! Thank you!

Just spotted this review as Im looking for one of these 2 mics....I was a bit iffy about that bespoken stand connector thing...and the way to fell off and wobbles about has made my mind up ;-)

Almost got talked into buying the stealth but every comparison video against the SM7B just made it sound thin and cheap. I 100% need a cloud lifter though, my SSL2+ needs to be pushed way too hard. I think the mics are tough to compare because with a cloud lifter the price doubles..

Whomever designed that proprietary mounting system and/or the team that reviewed the prototype needs to look for another line of work. How did such a poorly-designed mounting solution ever make it past the review stage? That aside, the modes on this microphone seem a bit gimmicky, and don’t sound very good imho. Finally, plosives rejection is just terrible, the solution to which would require a good pop filter, turning the Aston Stealth into an Aston “Not-So-Stealth”. Big pass on this one for me.

the "Stealth Stand Mount" is absolutely no match for the weight of the of Aston Stealth.

Shure SM7b $399.99, CL1 $149.99 = $550, Aston Stealth just plain $399.99 and has a clean pre amp built in. So for the negligible difference you would have to pay an extra $150 to get the Shure SM7b. I don't honestly warrant an extra $150 for a small difference in sound. The sound you get with the SM7b can be achieved with EQ, and the issues you had with this Stealth would have to be unit specific because mine does not wobble, have weird noise, not to hot while active, or any noticeable hiss either. Just my thoughts on this. It comes down to preference, but I wish you had gotten a unit in perfect working order for a fair comparison.

Stealth sounds thin and cheap like any off the shelf mic in that 100-250 price range. not much detail or sensativity
