The Creepy Death Behind Annabelle..

Stay tuned for a true story behind one of the creepiest ever dolls: Annabelle but watch out because it might be even more terrifying than the films! Subscribe to Anna Solves for more true crime stories.

Now, we might all be very familiar with the movie version of Annabelle. In the Conjuring from 2013, the film opens with a spooky “true” story. A porcelain doll was given to a hapless student nurse. Only, it soon began to act weird.

And then it got super scary. But compared to the “true” story that inspired the movie, there are some pretty huge differences! For a start, Annabelle was nothing like the creepy doll in the Conjuring. It was actually this.

This sweet old ragdoll looks pretty harmless, right? Now, like I said, it looks nothing like the one from the film. Which I would NEVER want to keep in my house!

I could actually understand wanting to own the Raggedy Ann. Which is exactly how all of this started, way back in 1970! When, a woman gave her daughter, Deidre (although some sources call her Donna), a Raggedy Ann doll for her 28th birthday.

Guess she was inspired by this old commercial?
"Your kids will have as much fun with Raggedy Ann as you did…"

I know. It seems a little odd for a grownup to get a doll, but it was a cute gift all the same. Maybe Deidre owned one when she was growing up, and her mom wanted to give her something a little nostalgic?

The story goes that Deidre (or Donna) was a student nurse who lived with her roommate in an apartment building. She used to take the doll to bed with her. But it wasn’t long before she started noticing her sweet, cuddly doll acting...super weird.

At first, she found it sitting in different places on her bed. Then it started turning up in completely different rooms from where she’d left it. Deidre began bringing it to breakfast with her, and she and her roommate saw its arms move on their own!

Finding all this more interesting than scary, the nurses thought the doll had a spirit inside it. So, they got in touch with a medium to speak to it! They held a seance and the spirit actually spoke to them!

The medium told them the Raggedy Ann Doll was hosting the spirit of Annabelle Higgins, a girl who had passed away, and was possibly murdered near their apartment building when she was very young.

Annabelle’s spirit was lonely, and she had sensed kindness in the two nurses. So she hung out within the doll. She asked if they would make her part of their home. Keep watching to find out how this true scary story ends...

My grandma was actually good friends with Lorraine warren for sometime before Lorraine died. They both lived in Connecticut about 20 minutes away from each other, so they could se each other often. My grandma also knows their daughter too. For Christmas last year, my grandma surprised me with a bracelet that Lorraines daughter gave to her made from lorraines jewelry collection. I wear it all the time!!

I’ve met Lorraine Warren. Got to speak with her for a while. Outside of the creepy stuff- she was super sweet. Possibly the sweetest lady in the world. She spoke of her “gift” in other situations outside of demonology. After all Ed was the demonologist, not Lorraine. She was a medium. Clairvoyant. When she met me- she already knew me. Just from being in the same room with me, she hadn’t talked to me yet. I was just a teenager at the time and she knew my life up to that point and said a few things that did happen. It doesn’t matter if you believe what she tells you that she’s seen and been through from the proof or other peoples ghost stories- you simply believe her when she speaks. Maybe that’s master manipulation skills or maybe she experienced this world differently than most do. She told me (she may have told this story publicly idk) but she said the first time she saw Ed, she saw his death, and a preview of their lives together, and no matter what people said she loved him with all of her heart. Her eyes lit up when she spoke of him. It was beautiful to hear. You don’t often hear about love that you can physically see in a persons eyes. Idk she was amazing to me and my family, and I truly believe she saw things we couldn’t. She kept these things because she truly believed she could save people by them keeping them away from public. Ensuring her family would inherit them and keep them safe and away from the public.

Did the nurses ever bother to figure out if the "annabelle" claimed by the doll ever existed?

Annabell and Chucky are not the only famous dolls in the world. There's also Robert the Doll. You should definitely cover the story too! There have been reports of Robert attacking and haunting people.

I think that the girl that's possessing the Ann doll like had an idea that she wanted to possess a person just for fun and the whole backstory is just well put together and scary. Thanks Anna.

When I was a kid my great grandmother gave me a doll exactly like this, but that's not the worse. In her house, she had a ragged doll as well, only it was pretty much the same size as I was at the time (I was 10) and she had two faces : one smiling and one crying. My mom believed it was out of loneliness and not having children to take care of anymore, but my great grandmother treated that doll like she would an actual daughter. Everytime I went to her house she would have dressed her up in a different outfit and sat her down in the armchair in the living room. As a kid I didn't really have any kind of feeling towards that doll, only now, 7 years later, do I feel creeped out by the memories of it

I'll always remember when we (siblings and cousins) were playing at our grandparents house and we found a Raggedy Anne Doll among the toys. We were all to terrified to go anywhere near the basement until someone threw it out😂

Honestly, I admire the Warrens and their investigations.

The reason why the mother gave the daughter the Raggedy Ann doll is because at that time it was common for even women to own such dolls as a collection or so

My mom had a raggedy Anne doll as a child & up until my sisters & I were kids. The doll was a knock-off I believe so it was probably 3x the size of the Anne belle raggedy Anne doll. This was probably ab 10 years before the movie annabelle. My mom & the rest of my sisters were constantly having nightmares about the doll killing us. We noticed it in different places, none of us kids really liked it, it had a negative vibe & we had an idea it might be haunted. You might wonder why my mom would’ve kept such a creepy doll for most of her life, well this doll was sentimental to her bc it was a bday present she received as a child. The final straw was when she had a nightmare the doll pushed her out a window & stomped on her hands until she fell. After that my mom threw the doll away and she continued to have nightmares for awhile ab raggedy Anne crawling out of the trash & coming back for her. When the annabelle movie came out it was beyond, creepy and scary especially when I found out the real doll was very similar to the scary one my mom had owned. Geez we’re we grateful my mom had thrown away that creepy doll when she did. 😭
Also FYI a poltergeist is a multiple spirits haunting a house, not necessarily an evil spirit, but it may include one.

I was never scared of the Raggedy Ann version of Annabelle until the movie came out. I know in the movie it was a porcelain doll, but I've always been scared of those. Every time I see either version of doll now, I have a full-on anxiety/panic attack.

I did have a spooky thing happening to me once... where I was playing outside (I was 5 or 6 years old at the time) and I had seen a man, I tried talking to him thinking he was a family friend and when I told my mum she said no one was here and asked me to describe the man and when I did I saw the pure panic in her eyes. I found out later that it was my grandfather that had passed away a few years before I was born. So that means we NEVER met. It creeps me out to this day but always told myself "maybe I saw a picture of him and my wild little kid brain had too much imagination" even tho I'm 99.9% sure I had never seen a picture of him whatsoever.
