Harvey Keitel: A most durable and 'really lucky' actor

Hollywood hasn't always considered Harvey Keitel, as he puts it, "bankable." But he's always memorable, in such films as Martin Scorsese's "Mean Streets," "Taxi Driver" and "The Last Temptation of Christ," "Thelma & Louise," "Bugsy" (for which he earned an Academy Award nomination), "Pulp Fiction," and his latest, a reunion with Scorsese in "The Irishman." Keitel talked with "CBS This Morning" co-host Anthony Mason about his journey from Brooklyn and the Marines to being a "really lucky" actor who is not, he contends, a star.

Harvey has always been a scene stealer. So underrated and talented.

That is the thing I love about Harvey Keitel, he's honest and down to earth. He is truly an artist and he has well earned that title.

"I think of myself as a former Marine who got lucky...really lucky" Harvey made a profound statement right there!

Reservoir Dogs, Bad Lieutenant, The Piano, Smoke, Head Above Water, Clockers, Imaginary Crimes, From Dusk Till Dawn. The 90's indie movie explosion was a remarkable period of artistic freedom for up and coming directors and unforgettable performances by actors who truly respected their craft. Thank you Harvey for being a very important part of that era of cinema.

“The Bad Lieutenant” is the craziest, hardcore movies of the 90’s.

I didn't realize he is in his 80s! I think he is so timeless. He's such an incredible actor. I would watch him sit and read the newspaper, and he'd do it brilliantly.

That scene in "The Irishman" with Keitel, Pesci and De Niro is one of the finest ever made, there wasn't any detail overlooked. They're just seasoned actors that perfected their craft and make it look easy...

Harvey Keitel was my first forever crush, I mean I had the biggest crush on him, even now as I’ve gotten older I still think he’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen.

I’ve always liked Harvey, an underrated actor but a brilliant one, he could make the most out of a small part. He’s unfortunately right about “bankability, ” in Hollywood nowadays. My favorite movie roles Harvey are The Piano, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and Thelma and Louise.
