IT services industry in India employs a lot of talented and creative employees. But the treatment given to these employees is not great to say the least. When leaders of IT services companies like TCS, Wipro, and Infosys reach out to their foreign clients, they tell them, “We have a lot of people in India and they are cheap resources.” And when the word cheap enters the chat, the overall work atmosphere takes a massive hit. The clients don’t value the time and effort put by these employees.

The clients do not have the right attitude and it just stems into unprofessional behaviour. And this is the crux of the problem. You have to work for longer hours as an employee without a satisfied client. This needs to change and it can only change if we talk about this dark side of IT jobs or this dark side of IT industry that is mostly ignored when we talk about the growth aspirations of our country.

As an employee, you should try to avoid this dark side of IT sector at all costs. Just move to a product role if you can. IT industry problems cannot be solve by just one employee. As an employee you should not take anything to the heart. Treat your job just like another job and do voice your opinion against this IT employee exploitation which is so rampant in IT jobs. Hope this video helps you understand the reality of IT industry and gives you a basic framework to solve this problem.

The Indian corporate culture needs a radical change. We are humans, we need a good work life balance

“Treat others as you want to be treated”. The world would be such a good place to live in if everyone followed this.

Hopefully this cruel and greedy corporate would change. They really don't care that employees are human beings.

Indian corporate leaders call their employees as bodies/resources during client conversations. I was stunned to hear that. As a result I was not spontaneous during the conversation. Due to this not much of growth for me. Look at the vicious circle…

Even Salesforce which is product company has a service line which is like this

Clients treat those service companies employees better than the employers.
Employers don't care about working hours and salaries. They should do that first.

@pavansathiraju sadly, the big 4s are no different. Deloitte USI, KPMG Global Services(KGS), PWC Acceleration Centers, and EY GDS are all operating on the same model. I have worked with two of the aforementioned, and can definitely comment that the offshore guys are not treated with that much respect, at least in KGS. Deloitte USI was better, it's a lot more mature, in the sense that USI is known for tech proficiency in specific areas like SAP, Analytics etc. In fact, to give Indian IT cos credit, they are actually trying to reform by becoming process experts, and building specific service lines around domain consulting, like Infosys Consulting, Wipro Consulting, Capgemini Invent etc.

Very true. I seen clients asking more and more for free and we oblige.

Indian IT services need to coach young and ambitious employees self respect their own worth, be courageous and bold. Cheap labour does not get work which really challenges the intellect .

Service sector contributions crossed 50-60% in India.
That's why there is a creation of bubble is happening which will burst in future or we can say it is bursting right now .

I am deliberately avoiding the word experience here for obvious reasons.. I have worked for the past 22 years.. I am 45 years old.. haven't picked up any new skill along the way thanks to my last 8 years as a so-called manager with a top IT MNC .. now I am laid off.. I feel completely worthless and irrelevant in today's IT scenario.. I used to be an ITSM professional...now I don't have a job and I don't know what to do.. for the past 4 months I have had no income..does this resonate with anyone else?!

Fortunately my scenario is little different, my company treats me badly as you said.. But my client treats me good, equally like they treat their collegues. They will ask me not to extend my hours. But work efficiently on working time. And when they feel like im burdened they will ask me if i need more help and they politely inform my company that i need more hands. Im irritated with my company and my managers.. But clients are awesome

Even if we work 24 hours a day the client won't be happy they expect us to put an extra hour on that day. It's a simple Client Logic

After doing MBA, They still don't know how to gracefully say cost effective labor, Instead of sayin cheap labor, Though they might be treating them as one...
