Mine kicks up so much dust in 5th that you can't hardly ride it out. When I'm tramming I'll stand up with one arm on the LeTourneau over head cable system using one hand and one foot to correct steering. Love these older beasts.

I remember the Cat wheel loader I drove many years ago had a plate welded over certainly the 4th gear and I do wonder if it was over the 5th too as it was only possible to use 1, 2, 3 and reverse.
We was on a strict rule as when the 3rd gear could only be used too and do remember someone getting sacked for it.

The larger farm operators here would weld 4 and 5 shut with square stock. Others would terminate people if they went faster than 3rd.

High gear on majority of machines is transport gear otherwise it takes two weeks to move one 10 miles lol
