This is a clip from my interview with Dr. Daniel Boyarin, a rabbinic Jewish scholar. Many people think that the concept of a divine Messiah is unheard of in Judaism. In this excerpt, we discuss why this is mistaken. Dr. Boyarin has argued extensively for the conclusion that many ancient Jews believed in and even worshipped a divine Messiah. That's what we talk about in this video.

Stay tuned for the full interview!

I would suggest you also interview David C. Mitchell, who wrote “Messiah Ben Joseph, ” which makes a case for the antiquity of the concept of a Josephite Messiah which included the concept of his dying and rising. Heiser interviewed him on it. The Talmud is not really ancient enough for it to be historically relevant for Second Temple Judaism on this issue.

Jewish hopes of redemption within second temple Judaism was never divine. The messiah was often 2nd in command to Yahweh. Even in Ezekiel the Tradgian's literature. That doesn't mean we cannot say the messiah cannot be divine but we have to be honest with their literature

So that's where the Christians got the idea from. For a sec I was thinking it was because Jesus actually was a divine messiah. Never mind then
