All NEW Toyota Corolla Cross 2024 - Visual REVIEW, exterior & interior
Показать описание
Toyota's latest entry in the hotly contested small crossover segment, the 2024 Corolla Cross aims to build on the nameplate's reputation for reliability and value. Sharing its platform and powertrain with the Corolla sedan, the Corolla Cross delivers good fuel economy and generous cargo space in an affordable package.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 169 horsepower, mated to a continuously variable transmission. Performance is adequate but uninspiring, with the Corolla Cross taking 9.2 seconds to reach 60 mph in our testing. The CVT keeps the engine droning at high rpm during accelerations, but helps achieve EPA ratings of 29 mpg city and 32 highway (30 mpg combined) with AWD. Fuel economy is a highlight, with the Corolla Cross AWD beating its highway rating by 2 mpg in our real-world testing.
The Corolla Cross's ride is comfortable and handling secure, if not engaging. The suspension ably soaks up bumps and road imperfections, providing a smooth ride. But don't expect much fun in the corners, as body roll is significant. The steering is light and numb on center. Braking performance is average, with the Corolla Cross needing 172 feet to stop from 70 mph.
Inside, the Corolla Cross features a straightforward dashboard layout cribbed from the Corolla. Hard plastics abound in lower trims, but the XLE includes nicer materials and optional leatherette upholstery. The front seats are spacious, but rear seat space is snug. Outward visibility is quite good for the class. Cargo space measures 24 cubic feet behind the rear seats, expanding to 47 cubes with the 60/40-split rear seats folded.
Toyota loads the Corolla Cross with active safety tech and driver assists. All models come standard with forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are optional. Crash test results have been top-notch, with the IIHS awarding the Corolla Cross its highest Top Safety Pick+ honor.
Pricing starts at $25,210 for the base front-wheel-drive L model, climbing to $29,435 for the top XLE trim with AWD. The mid-grade LE offers the best value at $27,540, adding dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and push-button start over the L. Overall, the Corolla Cross delivers good fuel economy, generous cargo space, and Toyota's reputation for quality and reliability. But rivals like the Mazda CX-30 and Hyundai Kona deliver superior driving dynamics and more vibrant personalities for similar money. The Corolla Cross plays it safe, appealing most to shoppers who prioritize sensibility over excitement.
