Proxies and Firewalls do similar things in different ways. You can use either or both, but they aren't exactly the same.

Great description of Proxy - I could visualize my sister asking mom.  However, "wall of fire" didn't work for me.  If I may suggest a clarification of Firewall - the firewall in a car - that's the wall under the windshield that separates the engine compartment from the passenger compartment.  It literally prevents a (potential) engine fire from getting inside the passenger compartment.  They poke a few holes in it for the steering wheel controls, power connection for the radio, A/C, heater hoses etc.  A few trusted things are allowed through with special surrounding insulation so, for example, the fire can't come through the A/C vents.  Fire is bad.  Firewalls keep it out. :-)

@NZappletech A. Don't Pirate. B. You'd have to have an end point for the VPN, To be a Private network you have to own two ends, so you'd need a server somewhere.

@shehanster if you rob a bank in a country that uses British pounds while living in the US is it still wrong?

@shehanster Proxy's are rarely anonymous.

@BlackwaterOpsDotCom so arent web proxy's made so that users anonymously browse the web or browse sites that are restricted to your local?? its like indirectly requesting a page aint it?

@lockergnome what if you pirate something that is not available to your region ??

@Supralobe NAT means Network Address Translation this is why we still haven't run out of IPs in IPV4 where as proxy is a method to anonymously surf the web ( that's if you put in the most simple way )

Quick Question @Lockergnome If I get a VPN, will that then prevent my ISP from seeing torrents that I'm downloading? As a New law was past here in New Zealand, where all illegal downloads are completely banned. And you get 3 warnings, then you're fined tonnes of money :/

@shehanster I can't find any encryption options in µTorrent on mac :( And not sure if that would work or not.

@shehanster I'm not sure how to do any of that. Would you be able to explain in more detail? :( Plus I'm not sure if that would still let my ISP find out. I think the way they do it is by having peers on downloads or something to see you and your IP address. Otherwise they watch all of you usage. One or the other.

@NZappletech why not use encrypt your downloads in your torrent clients its just built in, there is also the option of tunneling tunneling

The firewall in a car would have been a better analogy.

@BlackwaterOpsDotCom no that has nothing to do with it, where i live most of us are willing to pay but it just isnt available, even software's like the adobe creative suite, you literally have to fly to a country that is available and buy it online or physically buy it, that's what i mean . its just that the product you need is not available to buy legally but is available on the Internets for free illegally. and no not even purchasing only the key is an option .

I have a question. I want to use a proxy but just for 1 site, is it possible? For example, let's say I want to use a proxy for google.com but not for youtube.com, any way to do that? Thanks.
