On Jan. 16, 1991, President George H. W. Bush announced the start of Operation Desert Storm, after Iraqi forces who had invaded neighboring Kuwait refused to withdraw.

I served with HQ CO, 3D Marine Regiment (REIN), attached to the 1st Marine Division.

Also known as Task Force Taro, we conducted the only helobourne operation of the ground assault...as well as Storm (mind the pun) across the Iraqi berm. Among other units we secured Kuwait International Airport on Feb 24, 1991.

I was pregnant with my son when this happened! I remember it well! So many of my friends were in the military.. this was a very sad and scary time!

I remember it as it was yesterday, WE felt on top of the world the build up, the long trip, the heat when you got out of the plane, the impatience to get it over and come back home quickly, it seemed like a dream until WE began taking some casualties. Little did We know that WE left unfinished business and would have to go back in 2003.Our COUNTRY has lost so many Good Men and Women, they're among the finest OUR Nation has ever had in all Branches OF SERVICE and OUR allies. For the ones that are NO longer with us.. WE'll see each other on the other side, you may be gone but won't be forgotten. To the ones that came back home, Thank you for your Service BROTHERS and thank you to your families for making the sacrifices they made!.
