I love the way you take care of Kurt, it's the way my hubby and I took care of our Malcolm who was no fan of traveling. So important to play with him before you leave, talk and interact with him on the trip so he won't be anxious. And as you said let him or her catch the toy after a while! It's so important. Good stuff. I've travelled with cats several times, to include staying in hotel rooms. I found that on extended trips taking an item with my scent on it is very good to help them feel more at ease both in the car and in a new place. If driving I take a lap blanket from the sofa to put near their kennel in the car and then put that on the foot of the bed in the hotel room (don't tell the hotel staff, even the pet friendly places usually want you to keep animals in their kennels). Alternately, you could use a sweater, shirt, etc that you wore that day. I find they sleep on it every time. It really helps when the cat is already laid back like Kurt!

It's really fun taking 3 cats and 3 people on a 20 hour car ride across the country. We ended up letting the cats out of the carriers because they got really mad and scared. It would have been much easier with just a single cat
