This is a random find on my journey of "fanboydom" for Floor Jansen as an artist. It came up on my feed and it is a live recording but not an official live recording so I apologize for the sound quality as the strings come off quite loud so I had to adjust a little of the level but as you'll see I am not good at that. This is Cry with a Smile with Floor and the Limo String Quartet from several years ago.

Nice to see you discover this hidden gem. There are more. Most people seem to ignore the first 15 years of Floor's career, which is a shame because they were her best. But almost none of it is properly documented.

A little backstory on this one. Her first band After Forever took a break in 2008 and officially disbanded a year later. Floor would go on to ReVamp the band under a different name and with a different line-up in 2010, but before that she would perform these AF songs, transcribed for a string quartet. As it turns out, Floor doing solo concerts with session musicians is not a new thing, and neither are her appearances on TV - she did it years ago, it just never drew any attention until 2019.

This must be the only AF concert recorded in decent quality. They really wanted to make a live DVD but got royally screwed over by the label.

Floor also did this song last year, at Hertme, the Netherlands. I was there 😊. She told us she wrote the song after her old dog died.
