P2 Volvo Faulty Steering Rack Symptoms Noises Diagnosis & Important Info V70/S60/S80/XC90

With the M135i engine away for rebuild I can finally get organised for the next jobs on V70 YES.

Hi Tolly Glad to hear you have finally sorted your V70 problems i also got to the bottom of my XC90 vibrations which turned out to be a the bottom rear vacuum mount having replaced all of them except this one with Corteco after binning the cheapies i first bought. I was dreading doing the rear due to access and seemed to be holding a vacuum so i didnt bother but i changed it last week and found it was in fact leaking WHAT a difference it feels like a different car no vibration and quiet :-)

Excellent vid mate. My V70 T5 2003 has a wobble in the steering when going slow over rough bits of road and the tracking and alignment keeps going out to the left. I an't work out whats causing it? The tie rods inner and outer are new, the rack looked fine when i replaced them, no corrosion or leaks and it didn't seem loose? Also the control arms and ball joints are new which has helped a bit but the wobble is still there over bumps. Could the universal joint be worn or is it most likely the steering rack that on the way out? Cheers.

My XC90 is doing the same thing. Can the preload be adjusted on the rack?
