The original deal had them being built in Australia (Adelaide), yet the French company changed the deal afterwards...

France and China are also connected in Africa. France has deposits (contractual) with 13 African countries (ex colonial countries) 60% of those countries deposits are in the French govt. banks which presumably can be lent out and used for the benefit of France. China builds many infrastructure projects in African countries and the loans would come through the UN or World Banks. That loan money may also be sent to French banks. So in the UN, France and China may be both voting for huge African loans… that benefit both China and France. Think Game of Thrones.

Ah the French feel humiliated. As an Aussie. Let me remind the French that i am upset we lost 10`s of thousands of Australians fighting for them in two wars on French soil. In two years we never even had a blue print for the Subs from them and they kept jacking up the price, where it hit 90 billion and no results whatever. Australia has to consider it`s security in this current world of events.

Part of the reason why the deal was canceled was the French were Dragging their Heels on the Australian Submarine deal, there was an urgent need so they dropped the French.

If we in Australia have to defend ourselves, it won't be France alongside us (despite the 60 odd thousand Australians buried in Great War cemeteries). The French deal was truly awful (diesel power) and the contract had opt out clauses. Australia simply decided not to proceed to the next stage. Finally Australian politicians have done the right and obvious thing - having tried everything else first.
