I think what it is is that hes trying to match the original singer instead of singing in the pitch that would work for him and hes not using good vocal techniques so he cant get enough air to hit the right note and hes just ruining his voice.

I am still learning about singing but I can tell that his bad breath management and his underdevelopment of his head voice are part of the reason he’s straining his voice. He also relies on his riffs to save him, but he doesn’t always have the strength to follow through so he’s flat. One thing I will say is I wish I had his vocal flexibility, though. I can barely riff if even at all to save my life.
