Hi,
Welcome to Speak Japanese Naturally.

After watching this video, you'll be able to type in Japanese on your smartphone!

Before watching, please add a Japanese keyboard to your smartphone.
If you're using iPhone,
If you're using Android,

If you want to improve how you sound when speaking, my course, "Japanese Phonetics with Fumi" would work for you. You start with basic sounds, then mora, pitch accent, and intonation.

I can't believe how much more intuitive this is than typing English on a QWERTY keyboard. I just started studying Kana flashcards *today* and this keyboard already makes sense.

1:00 ma'am you may have just saved me so many hours of my life showing me I can swipe. I actually lowered the hold time to reduce the wasted time getting iueo. Thanks a bunch!
1:52 as of November 2023 dakuten/handakuten is in the same lower left-hand spot for androids.
2:07 THANK YOU!!! using small tsu or やゆよ is such a pain but this also works for android!
ありがとう!You have significantly improved my ability to text in Japanese. I use it to learn new kanji and it can be such a pain. You're a legend!

ありがとうございます❗️
I did not know about the swiping! This speeds things up considerably :)
I’m also trying to memorize the Japanese keyboard on my Mac so I don’t need to type in romaji.

Thank you for the explanation. I started to learn hiragana and katakana some weeks ago and tried to figure out myself how the typing works, but I couldn't find a logic. I also very like the way you talk. It is very calming and nice. ❤

Ive been using this keyboard style for about a month, it is definitely better for me this way. For me, the less English input that I see and use, the better. When I learned Mandarin, I learned Taiwanese-Zhuyin input very fast using this method because I took Pinyin off of my phone. It took me only 2 weeks to get used to it

It definitely takes me a lil bit longer to type but I'm sure in a couple years I'll be a pro at it

I've watched a few videos on how to use the keyboard. Yours is the first one I actually understood. Thank you!

Firstly, thank you! It’s exactly what I was looking for.

Secondly, I never really put much thought into exactly how they’d build different keyboards for different languages on smartphones. It’s fascinating and super clever from a design perspective.

Also I love that it has a ^_^ button, English would be more fun with one of those!

I used to write with a Western keyboard so this was very helpful 😊

Thank you so much!!! I'm English and travelling to Japan soon, and have been learning Japanese for a while. This helped so much as struggled with the special characters, although feel silly now I realise how simple it is 😅

ありがとございます! I’m just beginning to learn hiragana, and your videos on writing and typing have been especially helpful for me at this stage. I’m sure I’ll be watching lots of your other videos too as I start learning more words.

Thanks, I'm doing Duolingo Japanese on my iPhone. All my answers had been in Romaji. But today I skipped up to Section 2; Unit 5. Suddenly it asked me to write a sentence in Japanese. First time I've ever had to write on a keyboard in Japanese. Suffice to say, this video really helped. I don't know how to type in Japanese script on my laptop yet, so let me say, arigatou gozaimasu!

Thank you! I lived in Japan and learned Japanese in the 90s (before this technology), so using a Japanese keyboard was a bit confusing for me, your video answered my questions very quickly and I learned some new kanji! 😊

ありがとう. I just now figured out how to make the hiragana small on my version.

First i have to enter the chosen hiragana character and then while it's highlighted, I have to push a different button which makes them small and or adds dakuten depending on the number of times I tap it.

OMG thank you so much ! I was struggling so much to find how to just type 'ga' but I got nothing on internet and you're the only video explaining it clearly that I found, thanks !

ありがとう! You ignited my Japanese passion again! I was falling short, and gave up. But I want to finish learning now. I learned all of hiragana and gave up once I got to katakana.
