Quick tip. Dont use wet rocks like from a creek or river bed. The moister imside can start to boil and couse spectacular explosions

I love the sound of the logs when they knock against each other and when they are hit by the axe.

Dude's the teacher I never had. These short clips have helped me countless times and I'm so grateful for him. Best creator on this niche hands down.

Should note that these are not dry logs. Green or seasoned at best. The moisture content and density of the wood will determine duration of the fire. You can burn green wood for a long time but you may need to add enough fry kindling to keep it going. A%+#~<550>x2.

Thanks for the tip, it looks like a really effective technique.

Used to call that a burn down. Kindling on top, fuel on the bottom, takes forever to burn out and gives off mostly steady heat.

If you try this please make extra sure that none of these logs can roll towards you! The whole contraption might get instable while burning up. You don't want a glowing log under your hammock and you especially don't want a glowing log rolling onto you during the night if you sleep on the ground!
So put some extra stones there or put some freshwood stakes in the ground.

In Africa we use a good dry hardwood tree approx 18 inch diameter by 10 - 12 feet long. Place one end in the fire and just keep moving the log into the fire. It will keep burning on the underside/inside even if it rains. Just put smaller logs for cooking at the burning end. Lasts for days and doesn't require any effort when not cooking etc.

What keeps them burning longer is the fact they were left whole. I have never understood why people camping with a stove or fire, splits all their wood to small pieces when they need it to burn through the night.
I grew up with only a wood stove and at bed time Mom always put the biggest pieces in she could.
So why is it so hard to comprehend to use bigger pieces to last through the night.

The more dry rocks you can gather the better if you plan on sticking around.. Retaining the heat, you can post up next to the rocks keeping you warm for days

Tip: Fire smoke repell’s most wildlife in the world.
Also, to prevent forest fires-add water around the fire, make it almost or, muddy.

You can also heat specially chosen rocks to put under your hammock for heat. If it's super cold, I would get the hammock pretty close to the ground so those rocks will keep you warm. A hammock is not ideal for cold weather.

Yep. I remember this method. Brings back good memories of staying out late and sleeping by the fire

"You don't have to do this but it does help"
Translation: "You will have wet/green wood so you should definitively do this."
