How to improve your speech delivery

If you've watched my videos on social media about improving your communication skills, then here's a PRO tip I suggest to really embed your learnings.

Use a book and start reading the book and APPLYING the skills you've learnt. The more effort you put into this, the more likely you'll retain and develop the habit of powerful communication!

This exactly what I do to practice for a presentation: I grab some random book from my book shelf, open it to a random page, and read as if there is a crowd right in front of me. It has helped so much with my confidence not only when presenting but also holding one on one conversation.

Reading /memorizing/ reciting poetry is really good for this. It's a source material that is incredibly rich in emotion and illustriative language. Poetry is often short and self-contained, focusing on a single thought. Poetry also requires a melodic delivery that allows you to practice rising and falling speech patterns. Memorizing poetry also gives you a neat party trick.

Sounds silly but reading your kids a bedtime story helps. You're more likely to want to show excitement and play with different characters. Your tonality and emphasis really shine through.

Holy molly. I have been doing this for years without even realizing. Whenever I read a novel or a book (even if only in my head and not aloud), I do it as though I am acting the role of the characters 😂
