What a shame chrome doesn't allow to disable automatic updates in browser settings nor to check for update without installing it. What an inhumane browser! I need it only for website tests.

I don't know how thankful am to you I did every thing to stop my pc from consuming that data but couldn't fix that . this really helped but there occured a problem when I recopied it in update folder then Chrome again started getting update so don't do that guys whenever have access to unlimited data then only do that

Thank you ! I did not like all the bookmark folders that were yellow then turned white and difficult to see after an update. No settings to change that and absolutely no help from Google chrome support. I found a way to go back to the old version and instantly the folders were yellow again.

Edit: No, it does not work the way I wanted. yes, chrome is not updating itself, but it is downloading new version of chrome in background, so it is eating up bandwidth.

There is a better way to disable chrome update by disabling chrome update service. Open "Services" and find two google chrome update service and disable them.
