I did a walk-a-bout of my old alma mater, The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shot this footage. I am one of the 387,912 living Alumni.

In 2008, UW–Madison had 387,912 living alumni. Although a large number of alumni live in Wisconsin, a significant number live in Illinois, Minnesota, New York, California, and Washington, D.C. UW–Madison also had 15,479 alumni living outside of the United States.

UW, located in Madison, about a mile from the state capitol, the university is situated partially on an isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. The main campus comprises 933 acres of land, while the entire campus, including research stations located throughout the state, is over 10,600 acres in area. The University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum, a demonstration area for native ecosystems, is located on the west side of Madison. The main campus includes many buildings designed or supervised by architects J.T.W. Jennings and Arthur Peabody. The hub of campus life is the Memorial Union. In 2011, Travel+Leisure listed the Madison campus as one of the most beautiful college campuses in the United States.

The UW–Madison has its own police force, food service, hospital, recreation facilities, botanical gardens, public artworks, power facilities, and an on-campus dairy plant.

My Dad studied at UW Madison 1977-1982. He loved everything about the university and Madison. Used to work at a campus restaurant called "Gourmandaise", and graduated in Psychology. Thanks for bringing the movie. I will make sure I show it to him.

Even as a person who graduated in 2016, this brings back lots of nostalgia

Thank you for posting this wonderful video - great music to compliment it too. I cannot recognize some of the newer buildings but the older ones remain intact and beautiful. 1998 alumni from Indonesia. Best years in my life.

Oh, my. When did I become so old. The last few minutes, starting around 11:17, someone stop slicing the onions. Haven't been back since 1992. By then, it was another world. I was there 1979-83. I'm sure the US is littered with times and places like this, but for me, there was only one. Thank

Cherie, It was always evident to me that Madison was a time and place.  Meaning...every 4-5 years the Campus recycles a whole new population.  Whenever I return, I see the faces of my friends and they are no longer there.  Everyone leaves at one time or another.  So, I find the experience a bit hallow every time I go back.  It is not like when one goes back to their hometown.  In hometowns, the people you grew up with are still there (well, maybe half are still there).  But returning to Madison....its does nothing for me anymore.  Don't get me wrong.  I love the place and I am glad I went to school there.  But there is no long anything there for me anymore.

Michael, enjoyed this so. Both of my parents graduated from U of W. Later we moved to burbs of Washington D.C. But always returned to their alma mater. They remained close friends (many fishing and golfing trips for 50 + years) after graduating. :-)

Wonderful Michael. It reminds me my two years back in 1992 and 1993. I still love UW Madison and have great wish to see it again to walk downtown, state street, trace of memorial union and so on . I just retired from my government job here in Pakistan and will try hard to revisit the university that enlightened me.

UW, Madison, as beautiful as chronically depressing. I left that place just about 3 months ago, after a 4.5 years PhD in dairy science (means real winter experience outdoors, which is not evident in this video), and I already feel foreign to there, and that's probably because I always was. Nice video tho.

Interesting to get a feel for how a typical American university town looks like. It's summer, so most students were probably not there. What I notice is lots of big buildings but hardly anybody walking around.
