Lyrically, this song is nothing short of artistic genius. The themes of loneliness, death, fear, and regret are poignant, and the lyrics convey the feelings associated with these themes perfectly and poetically. It makes one think of someone who feels isolated, is dealing with nihilism and existential dread, afraid of dying alone, and is desperate for there to be something more to both life and death. It's hauntingly beautiful, deeply introspective, and a painful potrayal of the human condition.

Im 99 % that The book he's referring to being lost in is the Bible & the house he referred to belongs to God... the reference of God's house having many rooms in the Bible. Its about how he longs to be there in that house when he passes. Row by row waiting in a church & feeling alone

Thank you for the video, it shows how hard you edited and the narrator’s words are on point! 👍🏼

RIP CHRIS

Audioslave "The Curse" and its connection with the old 90s Cornell song "Ferryboat #3". would be a very interesting topic in my opinion. This video was great by the way.

I thought it was about God, and which place he’d go room by room he waits patiently for whatever path the it will take him to heaven or hell, he is led room to room trying to find God there to take him home.

The house that he wrote about waiting in was a house of death waiting for it to take him away. Plus the death of Andrew Wood made it harder for the loss of Layne.

I've always thought that Cornell's thoughts on the afterlife was influenced by his parents as well, being raised Catholic by his father but with a Jewish mother he most likely had thoughts in where they would end up. Even if both go to Heaven do they still end up together or do they wait for each other for all eternity?

To me, he's talking about wanting to go to heaven and is waiting in purgatory . Yes, he's speaking of the bible when he refers to the book . That's my interpretation of the song .

this is kind of a stretch. his depression wasn't clinical. the media says that. he didn't kill himself either, he was murdered. do some real research.
