Graduate were an English new wave and mod group formed in 1978, in Bath, England. They were only very mildly successful, and broke up by 1981. They are today best known as being the initial recording vehicle for future Tears for Fears members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith

1 of almost 3000 music videos on this channel, all taken from my videotape collection.

Although the band was created in 1978, this video is actually from 1980, in a TV performance, with this song "Ever Met a Day" on the children's program Runaround for Southern TV, in Southampton. It was in this year that they released their first and only album, “Acting My Age”. In 1981, Orzabal and Smith left Graduate and formed a band called History of Headaches, which they soon changed to Tears for Fears.

A very caffeinated Roland in '78 should be the title.

Didn't know they went back to late 70s! Just shows you, all the Great 80s bands like Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Tears For Fears, so many! They didn't just appear overnight, they put the years of work in, gigs, writing, creative focus....they forced their way into the popular culture of the 80s, and made it great for all of us!👏

Very XTC-ish. From a kid's show to global fame. Well done boys!

Looked like they were moving in fast motion. So young and full of energy. Great Iconic band.

Definitely getting Genesis/Men at Work vibes from this.

The boys were, maybe, 19.
Think about that.
Roland's musical genius is so stark.

I don’t know whether to laugh, cry or just be amazed. What a captivating clip from the past! To think they went on to create Songs from the big chair, Sowing the Seeds of Love, and Everybody Loves a Happy Ending - my three favourite TFF albums

My Dad was one of the directors for Runaround. I remember watching a couple of episodes from the audience. I also remember he described Mike Reid as difficult to direct because he had no patience with the kids taking part 😄

There is a photo of Curt and Roland at an early 80s King Crimson concert, totally enraptured. That explains how the went from this basic musical structure, to the more complex Tears For Fears arrangements.

You can see the Beatles influence in the outfits and hairstyles😄 If it weren’t for the description I probably would not have known it was Curt & Roland. Classic!

have the 10" album on vinyl and is one of my treasured belongings. Found it at a local record store (ska category) in New Jersey of all places.
