The compass does not point north, it points to your original spawn point.

Tip: You can go into the cartography table and add paper to the map or craft more paper around the map to see your pin and the mansion no matter what for super easy navigation and you can duplicate different size versions with the cartography table or crafting too

A story that pierced my heart and made me want to cry:
So I wanted to find a woodland mansion, so I decided to try the idea in this vid. 1st try getting there it was too far for my Elytra. 2nd try was going in the nether. It worked and I got to the area on the map. However, there was no woodland mansion, just trees. So I figured it was a waste of time and decided to go back home. The nether portal was relatively far away from the "woodland mansion" so I decided to use the ruined portal near by. Now, here is what I had on me: FULLY enchanted tools and armor, with every enchantment at the highest level. I had to grind for those using fletchers and librarians. Most of them died during a raid because they somehow got out of their houses and died. I didn't think of it much because they already gave me the enchants. I also had an Elytra (as said before).
So, back to the story. Using the ruined portal I went back home. I found a Bastion Remnant and decided to explore it. Just see whats in the chests, if I like something I take it and leave quick. As I was exploring, I fell into an ocean of lava. I used the Elytra to get me out, but I was still burning. Mid-air, I died. Around 1000 blocks away from my nether portal. I lost everything. Because the stupid cartographer scammed me with a fake map.
I killed him, for he technically killed me.
Months wasted.

Or use an online map tool... but I guess that's technically sort of cheating

1. The maps have correct cardinal directions (The top of the map is north)
2. The compass is useless, it points to the original spawn point and not to the north
3. The sun and the moon rise in the east and set in the west
I was able to find the mansion according to these three tips!

The compass points to the world's spawn, not north. Even if it did, you went the wrong direction.

It took me 1 straight hour, but I finally found it! Thank you! I was using the map, and it was like 50 minutes already, and I was just about to give up, and say that the map was broken, but it’s not! I was SO SURPRISED! 😃 Never give up, you could be one step away from success!

Don't use the compass for cardinal directions, use the sun or moon. In Minecraft, both rise in the East (righthand side of map) and set in the West (lefthand side of map). Figure out where you are in relation to the map then travel opposite that direction using the sun or moon for guidance to find the map. Then do the same for the point of interest on that map. Done!

and this is why i have an elytra before the woodland mansion, so it wont take me a few billion years to find it XD, but im just joking, let me know if i should take on the end city with the ship i found or woodland mansion please
