I love Messi phenomenal player, amazing goal record, amazing longevity, but for me Maradona was better, much better as an overall player, players from decades apart can't be compared, the quality of the pitches back then were atrocious, the defenders were rougher, the tackling was brutal, the balls were heavier & when wet even heavier.

There are so many variables to take in to account when comparing Messi to Maradona, imagine they had social media back then, nowadays everything is amplified by social media, people look too much in to stats & are blinded by them.

Messi is a rare breed but i don't think he would of been what he is today without the amazing team of players he progressed with e.g Xabi, Iniesta etc.. Messi has only played in La Liga.

Maradona was mesmerising on his own, in any team, even with his drug, health & weight problems he was amazing that's what you call natural talent, the greatest most gifted technical player ever!

Leader on the pitch unlike Messi, big game player, he got fouled so much yet never complained he got up & continued playing, most teams use to man mark him & they would take him out everytime he dribbled, when he went past 1 or 2 players another player would come & foul him to stop his flow, these days you can't foul like that so players look amazing dribbling past everyone.

Fun fact: the solo goal against England he scored at the end of the match he called the English players noble, appreciated their fairplay, he said most teams would have fouled him to stop him.
