How to do ACTIVE RECALL Effectively? (4 Techniques worked for me)

Показать описание
Traditional Study Techniques put data into the brain. Active recall is the exact opposite, where the students recall information from the brain. In short, Here are 4 techniques that worked really well for me in medical school.

1) Creating "Recall Questions" from my notes.
2) Using Anki for Active Recall & Spaced Repetition. (Gold Standard Study technique)
3) Using Multiple sensory modalities to study and recall.
4) Doing Practice Questions.

I have a small challenge for you in the video! Here are the Answers to those questions.

1) What is the brain area responsible for memory?
= Hippocampus.

2) What is the main difference between active recall and passive recall?
= Passive recall is uploading information to the brain. Active recall is the process of recalling information from the brain.

3) What are the two study techniques the Anki app is based on?
= Active Recall & Spaced Repetition.

4) Name three ways you can incorporate active recall?
= Creating Questions, Using Anki, Multi-modal recall, Practice Questions.

As a muslim, I used to memorize the Qura'an and do the same tachnique which is closing the book and trying to recall the verses by making sure that I made zero mistakes since my childhood and that really helped me in making my memory so strong. I've never encountered obstructions or difficulties on any course that depends on memorizing. However, for those who finds themselves having troubles on memorizing I highly recommend u guys to look over the techniques given in this video!

Enjoyed this. As I age my memory gets worse. I hope using some of these will help me remember things better.

1. Hippocampus is responsible for memory
2. Active recall from recalling it from it mind and passive recalling it from notes like just rereading it from notes and not trying test it from mind next
3. The anki technique is flashcard technique and spaced repetition
4. Recalling from mind, speaking out lout, writing it down on whiteboard/paper, try to teach the concept to group of imaginary student, practice questione moreeee

1. Use feynman techinque and explain concepts to someone or write them/take notes, then use it as a place to actively recall from.
2. Ask questions, to pay more attention and its a way to recall information.
3. Do questions like in a test, you will be forced to active recall which strengthens the concept

Trying to recall those other two parts of the brain, closest I could come with was "Angular Gears" and "The Fuselage". - Actually "Angular Gyrus" and "Fusiform Area". I'm actually pretty pleased with that for a first pass, haha.

In our country, the education system is very outdated and it sucks. We have to memorize the whole paragraphs on every subjects except maths. If we learn a topic, we have the memorize the whole thing from the textbook and we have to write them down exactly in exams. This is not education. But the silver lining here is we improved our memory a lot as active recall was the only study method for us.

sooo im studying for usmle. i got all your answers correct, in fact im capable of almost quoting exactly what you say. BUT all this goes away in a couple days. so basically my short term memory is super good but long term is a mess. i used to study the hardest lessons in medschool the morning of the exam and i would have no issues answering questions but if i study these lessons way earlier, i forget, then i panic, then i convince my self that ill never remember and i actually end up forgetting. my weakness is active recalling. and i desperately need to learn to revise especially now that im doing my step 1 exam.

1. Hippocampus. 2. Active recall is more of practice while passive reading is about reading from books. 3. Anki app is about repeating question on daily basis which is active recall and spaced repetition. 4. Magic of anki, practice questions, test memory

I feel studying methods depend on the subject. For facts and figures, flash cards are great but abstract concepts require writing. For example, read a chapter, then after a day write about it.
