"He never did because he didn't like me" the fact that he said while smiling makes it kind of tragic, it's like he's completely accepted the fact that no one actually gives af about him

The writers did a fantastic job making Aegon sympathetic in this scene. You can clearly see that he has been neglected and ignored. Even his mother can't say she truly loves him. I hope they develop upon this reluctance to rule in the second season, and not make him a Joffrey clone.

I definitely understand why he would ask his mama that question but it still breaks my heart that he doesn't feel like anyone in his family loves or cares about him

In the book Aegon even says “Why would I take my sisters throne from her?” showing how much he really didn’t want the throne and didn’t want the war to happen either. He was manipulated by Alicent and Otto to be king. I’m pissed they didn’t have him say this line in the show.

This scene is so sad if only viserys showed his other kids love and raised aegon better he could have been a good man. At the end of the day all aegon wanted was love from his father

It's scenes like this that I hope happen more often in season 2 since the time jumps will stop. Aegon being a dumb person but still smart enough to know that Viserys didn't change his mind on his deathbed and laughs at that notion lmao

Aegon, Aemond, Helaena and Daeron were failed by Viserys. Tom portrays Aegon brilliantly.

Aegon was not stupid. He knew it wasn't Viserys dying wish to him become king, it was Alicent who created that ilusion by misunderstanding the last words of Viserys. Why would he believe his father changed of mind and chose him as his succesor when in 20 years he kept Rhaenyra as his oficial heir?

« You imbecile » hits different after the scene where Alicent puts herself in front of Meleys to protect Aegon. She betrayed her best friend, she started a war so she could respect Viserys’ « last wish » despite everything she hates about her son. Of course she loves him, he is her blood

I REALLY like that over the course of the show, it has been shown that Aegon is not stupid. HE IS an idiot. But he is not stupid. He is surprisingly sharp witted and observant, he is also fundamentally a realist.

I mean the guy is aware that he is BAD, not enough to correct it, but that is honestly more self-awarness than anyone in his family. And intelligent enough to predict in the span of a few seconds what would his mother and grandfather would do and made a run for it.

In the book, it's said to Aegon that If his sister becomes Queen she will kill him, that's how he was persuaded into becoming king, this episode took a major drift away from the book. I hope they don't ruin it.

This scene shows that Aegon is smarter than people give him credit for. He rightfully doesn't believe Alicent that Viserys named him his heir before he died. Alicent isn't lying but she's very wrong. In this scene he's actually smarter than her.

This series doing what it does best: making a terrible character sympathetic, without expecting the audience to forget they're terrible. You don't need to love Aegon to understand him, Aegon does not need to be good for you to love him, and people can have a reason for doing things that are unjustifiable. Aegon's quickly becoming one of my favorite characters

Alicent is a fascinating character , I love the way Olivia cooke portrays her, she is my favorite no doubt

The greatest mistake of this show is focusing so much on the Alicent / Rhaenya relationship that they completely neglected Aegon / Rhaenyra. i would have loved to see how Aegon feels about his older sister and his father obvious preference towards her, and how Rhaenyra feels about how Aegon has turned up. Also how Alicent's paranoia poisons it.
