Americans do normal things every other culture does and call it zero waste.. don’t even wanna know what’s really going on in America.

Why is she acting like reusable dishes aren't a normal thing? The only thing that isn't the norm in here is asking people to bring they're own cups and a compost bucket.

Don’t ppl have dishes anymore? You’d get paper plates even for small company/parties of ppl? Or is it just single life where it’s only your stuff? Genuine question here?

Everyone: **brings a solo cup**

Metal glasses and plates are used for thousands of years in India and we simply call them utensils instead of a fancy term like 're-usables'. And it's kinda rude to ask a guest to bring their own glasses. In India at least, it will make you look like a jerk who thinks he's doing a favour by providing food in his own party.

On my view of USA, how they dispose of things and buy other on the blink of an eye because things are actually very cheap in there (compared to other countries), they think regular things are zero waste. Most people will have plastic plates and cups and reuse them not thinking is "zero waste", but because it's a waste of money to be buying disposable cluterry everytime you have a cookout of something. My fave video of this girl is she showing a lunchbox and calling it zero waste.

Reusable plates and cups have always been a commonly used thing, don't call it zero waste living when you use them.

Says she's zero waste. Has tin foil used in opening video

Is this "zero waste" in America? I'm in the UK...I've always had party plates and reusable cups...:') Finger foods are the only acceptable items at a buffet when it's a party

We indians are doing these simple things from ages and love the part that we are always contributing in reducing waste

You go girl!! it isn’t about being perfect or going to zero to a hundred in a day. That just isn’t sustainable. It’s about making changes that you are able to maintain in the long term. It’s about starting small and making bigger changes as you gain confidence and knowledge. No one is perfect and I think we should be lifting people up for the positive changes they make instead of minimising their effort or dismissing it because they are yet to make a change in another area.

Girl so many people are saying how weird America must be but like I’m American and this is just normal. Honestly I don’t know what she was doing before this but to all my other countries out there, we have some sanity. Thank you that was my Ted talk

We'll you can use clay, stone ware or porcelain dishes and glas for you know drinking GLAS!
Why the plastic?

Yes for parties too.

Reusable cups are like VERY normal.. like almost every single household has reusable cups in the cabinet lol.

For plate and cups, if you live in village, you tend to have at least 2 generations of those stuff. If its big event, borrow neighbors stuff is normal. Things like gas, table, chair, fan, and so on. Living together even not in the same house just nearby, with different generations helps a lot in reducing waste. Be in tight knit community too can help. ;)
