"Nou, dat moet je misschien soms toch maar gewoon eens even doen." Perfectly normal sentence, haha.

'MAAR' in the middle of a sentence, translates to 'just' at the beginning of that sentence. (unless it's used as ', but...' or 'only')
- Pak maar een boek = just grab a book.
Also 'maar' can mean 'only' or 'but'.
- Ik had er maar twee = I only had two.
- Ik had er twee, maar zij had de derde. = I had two, but she had the third one.

'EENS' means 'sometime' or 'please'. Not pressuring, but a request or a promise.
- Kijk eens = please look
- Lees die tekst eens voor = please read that text out loud
- Ik zal [not zou] morgen eens kijken = I'll take a look tomorrow.

'NOU' has many, many uses. Combining them with other words like 'nog' changes the uses.
- ben je nou nog niet klaar? = are you still not ready yet?
- stop nou met praten = now stop talking. (or:) stop talking already.

'TOCH' convey annoyance in these imperatives:
- Hou toch je mond = stop talking
- Doe toch normaal = don't act so weird
But at the end of a sentence, it's a request for positive confirmation/compatriotism, often translated with: 'right?' 'isn't it?'
- hij deed toch normaal? = he was acting normal, right?
- ik hield toch m'n mond? = I was being quiet, wasn't I?
Then there's also the conclusion-variant:
- Dit is toch de beste optie = this is the best option, after all

'Toch wel', kan ook zo gebruikt worden. wanneer iemand beweert dat iets niet kan en jij vind van wel.

I never realized the subtle meaning of those tiny words. I can understand non-native Dutch speakers struggle using them. BTW: When you speak Dutch you always amaze me how well your pronunciation is. I just love to listen to you speaking Dutch.

A Flemish tv-show was called W817: wacht eens even...
3:41 Doe maar can also be used as in: "doe maar paprika" as a reply to "welke chips dan?". In which it translates as "make it paprika", at least implying it's your choice, but indeed it's more that it's the best out of the options. The more southern you go you can also say "doe maar eens aantrekken" instead of "trek maar eens aan".

4:59 Eens. Depending where the speaker is from or how they talk it can sounds as 'es' or even 'is'. So it may sound like "doe is omdraaije", but it means "doe eens omdraaien" and that's below the great rivers Dutch for "draai [het] eens om".
5:38 Well well, now look at that. Or in Dutch: Nou nou, kijk nou eens naar dat. So in my experience nou translates as well or indeed just: now.

'Toch' can also be used in a sentence like "Daar moet ik toch een keer naar gaan kijken", meaning something like "I need to take some time in the near future to finally look into that". So for something that you could've done some time ago, but you didn't.

Probably a small thing, but how you translated "doe toch normaal" as behave yourself, blew my mind. I never thought of it like that but yeah, that's true haha

Its funny because you can use them all in the same sentence, for example "Houd nou toch eens even je mond", doesnt change the meaning, but now that i think about it the longer the sentence becomes, the less annoyed it is, for example "Hou je mond!" is much more aggresive/annoyed than "hou nou toch eens even je mond". The latter suggests that youre kind of starting to get annoyed and warning the other person a bit that it might escalate if they dont do what you say. Of course, the tone in which you say it is the most important factor, and can both lessen and increase the impact of the sentence.

Hmm. The 'eens' one is interesting. In my experience as a Dutchy, I've seen it this way: It can indeed mean 'at once'. But it's more just 'once'. So Kijk eens would mean look once, not perse look at once. It's also kind of implying that it will be over quickly so you only have to look once. Fun fact, you can also say 'Kijk eens even'. That would mean something like 'would you look at that' implying something impressive or shocking.

These are challenging words! What about : “Nou hoor”, “Nou zeg!?”. Then ‘nou’ doesn’t mean ‘now’, but more disbelief. Same with “toch”. “Ja toch?”, you say when you seek confirmation on a statement you just made. But also I saw the other comments about “toch” which are also true. Strange word this “toch” :-) Good video again! So fun to watch every time!

5:20 "Eens" allways depends on context. "Eens zal de waarheid boven water komen" is in the distant future.

Ik vind deze filmpjes zo leuk en informatief. Ik denk normaal gesproken niet eens na over dit soort woorden, maar ze maken inderdaad wel het verschil. Goed om je te realiseren!
