Climate change scenarios predict more extreme precipitation. This will rapidly result in flooding, especially in urban areas, as they do not have the ability to discharge large quantities of rainwater quickly. Fast High Volume Infiltration (FHVI) is an effective and cost efficient measure to prevent pluvial flooding; its small spatial footprint makes it especially suitable for the implementation in urban areas where space is scarce. The LIFE AERFIT pilot project runs in the Municipality of Apeldoorn (the Netherlands). Between 2019 and 2022, more than 150 infiltration wells will be drilled using the FHVI technique. During this session, representatives of the project and the municipality will present their key findings of the urban implementation process for FHVI systems.
