The Real Reason Why Lord Of The Rings Won't Stick To The Book Lore - Amazon Don't Own Them!

Показать описание
Amazon's Lord of the Rings is a prequel to the LoTR trilogy, set in a time period less explored was always going to be tough to create. But Amazon don't even have the rights to the books which could provide more information and context to this period. So Amazon cannot even talk about any of it. Combine this with Amazon's previous willingness to change the only bits of the lore which are actually Tolkein's work, and we end up with fan fiction that bears no resemblance to Lord of The Rings at all.

Do you think it's even possible to make a good Lord of the Rings prequel if you don't even have the rights to the lore? Does being forced to just create almost everything from scratch just make it fan fiction? Let me know your thoughts below.

Regarding Amazon's efforts so far with these "adaptations", I'm starting to think they should adopt the slogan...the... "One Company to Ruin Them All." 😁

I implore everyone who considers himself a true Tolkien fan..DO NOT make the mistake of creating an Amazon Prime account to watch this pile of crap! And if you already have an account disable it to show your frustration! Do you want to take a step further? Do not engage into any sort of Amazon related transaction!

Fights cannot be won without sacrifices!

They should have not made the show. Without the rights to those tales there is no way such a show could turn out to be good

Before the Fellowship came out, before Peter Jackson had become a household name (amongst fans). The build up to the film was excellent.
Me and my friends where excited, we were looking forward to it. They`re was a real buzz.
Its the exact opposite with this.
This has fans divided. Turning fans against each other in aggressive conversation. Total disregard for the fans legitimate concerns.
A tv show is not meant to do this, its meant to be entertainment.
Whats going on?

Well said! I think what is so egregious to fans is also taking what they DO have from the lore and completely misrepresenting it when Tolkien was explicitly detailed in those very areas and gave so much info on the peoples, character, and general world of Arda he created. That's just despicable. :(

The problem isn’t deviating form the lore, Peter Jackson did but changes he made felt like they could happen in the universe of Tolkien, they didn’t break immersion and didn’t feel disrespectful. Even Tauriel I didn’t mind as save for the awful romance it felt like it could have happened. It’s an adaptation and I’m no Tolekin purist BUT Amazon is completely disrespectful and outright refuting and undermining the established lore. The best example is diversity which doesn’t make sense. They could have just made them Easterlings or Harad no problem but now they change the details of Tolkien’s races. This is a man who spent his life meticulously craft every minute detail down to the great great grand uncle of Hobbit XYZ despite the fact no one cared. And Amazon changed all this on a whim, how ridiculous? Please don’t watch this show, it’s not an adaptation, it’s a mockery!

they paid 250 million for just the brand and got only rights for things we already know from the P.Jackson movies ... this is fucking brilliant ... this is converted expectations G.R.R. Martin style.... it all make sense now, Please keep walking, there is nothing to see here !

The Rings of Power, inspired by the works of JRR Tolkien, and seen through the eyes of a equity and diversity expert.

Sad part about all this. I don't think Amazon cares as long as it make's money. Tolkien dedicated 12 years of his life giving us in depth mythology and lore. Amazon is gonna ignore it for modern day messaging...😩

The Idea that these people could take the works created by J.R.R Tolkien one of the most prolific writers of all time, and simply invent a story set in his finally crafted world expecting people to just go along with it is nothing short of asinine. Honestly despite the fact that Amazon paid 1 billion dollars to create this show the way they've decided to go about making it now has me viewing it as talent less hacks robbing Tolkien's grave because they're not competent enough to write their own material.

I thought that Galadriel's performance would be in the political aspect. It would be a counterpoint to Annatar's ideas. And not as a warrior. Perhaps being guided by dialogues is not enough for the figure of "a strong woman".

People just haven't been keeping up. Tom Shippey revealed this in an interview with a German fanzine in 2019. You can find details of an interview he did in 2019 if you search 'Tom Shippey interview amazon'. It was the top item when I searched it. There's an English version, so no need to speak German. He specifically says, "But if it is not described or mentioned in the Lord of the Rings or in the appendices, they probably cannot use it."

He's also quoted as saying, "Amazon has a relatively free hand when it comes to adding something, since, as I said, very few details are known about this time span."

The Wheel of Time is the book series that finally convinced me to quit my job and become a fantasy author full-time. When I saw what Amazon had done to it, I was disgusted to the point of being physically nauseous. There's just no hope that anything they release will ever be worth watching. These critiques are pointless - we might as well pretend anything Amazon releases doesn't exist.

They got an actual Tolkien expert but fired him partway through production. That tells you all you need to know right there.

What makes Tolkien’s world so fantastic is despite its fantastical elements the world is grounded. So maybe this is to mundane for Amazon. But just reduce the scale of your show. Your not going to surpass or even meet the same level that lotr. Make a personal story about a few characters in Tolkien’s world. Fans would like that.

Amazon in what world did you think a fan of Tolkien’s works could ever like this??

Your series adaptation idea has been weighed, it has been measured and it has been found wanting!!!’

Considering they fired the actual most reknown Tolkien expert should have been a major red flag cause I'm betting anything that while Amazon will say it was because he violated his NDA by giving an interview that wasn't pre-approved by them, given all the shit they're clearly doing I am betting that was the excuse they gave because he was telling them that they were wrong about everything and were destroying the lore and he was not gonna just let them without voicing his disapproval.

I love how you expressed what's so offensive about what is being done. If you cast off Tolkien's 20% that you actually own, then what you are producing is not Tolkien or LOTR at all, and IMO you shouldn't be able to pretend what you have produced is a Tolkien work. You are very smart, articulate, logical and funny. Thanks for your content -- even when the subject is Naomi.

My love for J.R.R. Tolkien's work will make me skip this disgrace of a series.
