End of life Hospice Care for patients with Pancreatic Cancer also depends on where you are in your disease process. Ascites is a common symptom of Pancreatic Cancer that I've seen and Ascites is is the accumulation of fluid within the peritoneal cavity, which means that your belly becomes substantially bigger due to fluid buildup.

My late husband was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and 10 days later he passed away. Watching him fight his losing battle was so heartbreaking. I was finally able to bring him home on day 10. We had hospice come in and within less than 6 hours he passed. He fought so hard and I am so proud of him and miss him every single day.

My mother died of pancreatic cancer, she had so much pain. She was diagnosed and died a month later. I wish I had known about hospice nurses like you.

Unrelated, but kinda related. I had a hen with ascites. There aren't many chicken doctors out there so I had to watch youtube videos to figure out what to do. I had to drain her with a large syringe when she started filling up. It extended her life by 2 years.

A very close friend of our family went through this not too long ago. It's just such a shitty way to go.

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in July 2022, just this last September she started getting ascites. Til this day the doctors have yet to schedule an appointment to get a drain. Very aggravating as she is in so much discomfort every time the fluid builds and she has to get it drained at the hospital every week.

Wouldn’t it be the doctor’s job to suggest this? Why must this information be like a secret code with a secret handshake, before anyone even knows this as a possible solution to such a serious (and common) symptom?

I do appreciate that you mentioned this in here. I just don’t get why people are sent to hospice without this drain, unless the patient requests it.

My sister suffered with acites during her last stage of cancer. They kept taking her down to imaging to drain the fluid. The nurse told me the problem with draining it off it just comes back faster. She said we’d be fighting a losing battle. 😢😢 she passed about a week later.

my sister is in hospice with end stage pancreatic cancer. I believe she is being taken excellent care of but that said, this is a brutal way to die and brutal to watch someone you love die of it. Having seen this, I wouldn't stick around for it.
