I love how the "Real" audio starts pretty decent and then just descends into chaos.

The best part is that you can't hear Marge because her normal voice isn't loud enough to be heard while the drums are being played. Very accurate

The "actual" sound is pretty spot on in depicting how a kid who doesn't know how to play the drums would sound just banging around. In this sense, the animation is accurate and realistic, it's just the audio they put to the animation originally that is out of place.

there's a Family Guy cutaway gag where Peter is drumming and they went out of their way to make the animation as accurate as possible

Its even better when people try to animate string instruments. My friends and I in orchestra would always try to decipher what it would actually sound like. Most of the time it was just screeching

Things like knitting are almost never portrayed accurately either, which is why the knitting in Tangled had me so damn excited. They actually filmed a crew member knitting to get the motions right for the animators. Attention to detail on stuff like that is so awesome!

As someone who’s animated people playing musical instruments before, it’s so extremely difficult. Especially when you don’t know how to play instruments yourself.
In my case, I had to animate over already recorded audio, and I had no idea what drums made what noise, which is probably what happened here

After teaching some drum lessons let me tell you the second take there was MUCH more accurate, especially with younger kids

A friend of mine, Bobby Standridge [BobbysBrane] animated Neil Peart performing YYZ. He's a drummer, so he made sure that every single note was represented. It was so good that it ended up on Neil Peart's website front page for a while. [He also animated "Malignant Narcissism."

Took 18 months, but it was worth it. Seek that out.

As an animator, and a musician, I hate this kind of thing too, but also hate the idea of having to "accurately" animate how something as technical and precise as musical performance can be.

In all fairness, Marge never said he was good at it, just that he was enjoying it. Why they didn't accurately portray it is beyond me.

Edit 1: I'm sorry I didn't really mean to sound rude about the animation it still looks great and tbh I don't even watch The Simpsons often. It was more of a "haha funny discrepancy" moment than a "this is heresy" moment
