The title of this video should be "a critique on berberine studies".

I used berberine on my mother and reduced her LDL by 40% to almost within normal range. It also killed off an overgrowth of klebsiella and enterobacter species in her biome as well as significantly increasing her extremely low Bifidobacteria to almost normal levels. Her HbA1c was within normal range and did not change. In december we will have another liver scan to see if her non alcoholic fatty liver disease has been affected. Personally when I take a 500mg dose I get hypoglycemic so I'm about to retry it at a smaller dose of 166Mg and slowly titrate up to 500Mg twice a day. I'm using it for high cholesterol as well as klebsiella and enterobacter overgrowths with low bifidobacteria.

Dihydroberberine has done wonders for me. Way more effective and less side effects. 100mg dose of Dihydroberberine produces significantly greater plasma concentrations when compared to 500mg of Berberine

Thank you Dr. Nic. If you can do an episode on Ceylon Cinnamon and/or CinSulin and its possible role in improving insulin sensitivity / reducing blood sugar levels, that would be great!!

I am a 52 year old woman with a lifetime of obesity. My LDL was always crazy high at 220. Even when I was on keto and down to normal weight. This year I started with Berberine and for the first time I have a perfect lipid profile. My HDL could be a bit higher, but my LDL is in the perfectly healthy range. No one in my family ever had this good of a lipid profile so I’m guessing that Berberin together with Silymarin made all the difference for me.

This is an important point in scientific findings. With a supplement or type of food that is said to offer health benefits, sometimes numerous studies have been done. However, the quality within those studies makes a difference. Sometimes, even after a study is completed, there is still not enough information to make a meaningful conclusion.

I have learned a lot from your videos and want to express my appreciation. Also, I realize that this is not about the specific video above but perhaps you'll forgive me for offering an off-topic suggestion: Your excellent video on oxidized fish oil got me thinking about whether there are any studies showing adverse health effects from using "seasoned" metal pans for cooking due to the polymerized oils in the seasoning. Maybe you'd be willing to help interpret the scientific literature on that subject in a future video? Anyway, thanks again.

I've found your work on this as recent pre diabetic very helpful and have (fortunately) managed to reverse the issue. However now seeing information about dihydroberberine, supposedly more easily absorbed, efficacious and with less side effects. Would be interested on your ( the scientific communities) take on this. Cheers 😊

I don't know about the rest of metabolism but my n=1 with a CGM showed that berberine reduced glucose spikes. I typically minimize carbs but it was useful info.

may have been said below but the 2 studies with really extreme SDs and the first study with the high SD had a mean standardize difference of 0, 0, 0.4 respectively, so did not contribute to the signal meaning the result would have been stronger if excluded. I wouldn't throw out the entire study. The 3 studies may have used different units of measurement, but the comparisons were done on standardized values, eliminating scale.

I've seen other info suggesting that berberine is also a major prebiotic for akermansia in the gut.
Something I don't see talked about very often.

Thanks for another great video Nick!

Great video Nic, been waiting on an upload from you on Berberine! My partner is pre-diabetic and would like to give berberine a shot, since metformin is a prescription drug. With your analysis I am more confident to help them proceed. Thanks again for your amazing videos! :)

Hey, whats ur opinion on chromium and benfotiamine or ALA ?? Is it much better than berberine for controlling sugar damage and also benfotiamine for metabolic health??

The main effect berberine had on me was improving my bowel movements. It also seemed to keep my heart rate from getting high when exercising.

Thank goodness! I was totally expecting Conan the Berberine cartoon.

I’ve been doing a bit of research into berberine for my own use. You should probably mention the potential synergistic effects on some prescription medications such as beta blockers and statins before people start taking it.
Cheers
