So You Want to Cohab...

Good Morning, Reptilians! This week we're talking all about cohabbing reptiles. What it is, the dangers, warning signs to look for, when it's ok, and even some reptiles that CAN be cohabitated.

Also, there's a lot of reptile show footage in this video. It's NOT because reptile shows are bad or anything, they just tend to put multiple animals in tanks for people to buy, because they aren't in there long, and it saves space on those little tables. With that, though, you do quickly get to see how animals will behave in small spaces with limited resources, so the footage turned out to have lots of great examples.

Drives me nuts when I see people on Facebook cohabing cornsnakes and see them together and say they are cuddling.

This was perfect timing. Yesterday I was at a pet store and they had 5 leopard geckos in a 40 gallon. Usually I don’t say anything because I have a very hard time with confrontation. But I was like no I’m saying something. So I politely asked them why they had them together and do they know it can be very dangerous. Basically their excuse was that they had all grown up together since they were small so it was “okay”. And they had a lot of hides...And yeah in some rare cases it does actually work but first of all why risk it? Second of all 5 leos cohabiting in such a small space? And lastly people who come in see this and think it’s okay because it works for them, they are inadvertently showing something very dangerous. The only positive thing was that she knew that in 90% of cases it doesn’t end up well, so she tells people that. Still it was very upsetting.

Another great cohabbing reptile (in theory): Shinglebacks mate for life and are incredibly cool. Too bad they're prohibitively expensive for those of us outside Australia.

I have cohabited some species and had no problems but made sure first if that was ok with each species. My corn snake have no problems living to gather feed in tubs separately. Milk snakes are ones you do not want to put together high feed response. I have 4 female Box turtles that live together and have know problem when in give insects or frozen thawed pinks to them I make sure they all eat there own and don't steal from each other.
GOD BLESS And have a great weekend.

I cohabed 2 leopard geckos in a 10 gal when I was 10 not knowing. They were always okay (not thriving) we also fed them apart to be safe.

Now I'm 18 and have 2. I will be 100% honest they thrive so much more on there own!

I always enjoy your videos! The only reptiles I am considering cohabitation with are my box turtles, and that would only be if I get to do what I want and build a HUGE half room indoor/outdoor enclosure
