I’m surprised that Alaska is the least visited state

I've been a trucker for 3 years and I have not even entered North Dakota one single solitary time. It's probably the most isolated state in the lower 48 simply because of how the interstate system is laid out; it's not even on the way to anywhere else (I-90 goes through South Dakota). And nor do you, so far as I know, have any compelling reason to visit as a tourist. There's no cool mountains or forest the way South Dakota has the Black Hills. It's just pancake-flat grassland and cropland.

Nebraska’s state motto is, Nebraska, It’s not for everyone. When I first saw this on a welcome to Nebraska sign I thought it must be a joke, but it’s not

I live in Nebraska and can attest there is no reason to stop here.

I've been to Alaska for pure tourism. It has so much going for it in that regard.

Having been to every state except Hawaii I have to say that if you haven't been to Alaska you are really missing something special.

Imagine if Las Vegas weren't in Nevada. There is literally nothing else there.

If the Indy 500 didn't exist, Indiana would likely make this list

Surprised Wyoming wasn't on the list

Fun fact tourism is about 1/3 of alaska's economy. We also have a large amount of oil being pumped and processed as well as a large amount of fishing.

I drove through NE and spent a night there like a year ago and not much went on there BUT... It was the single most beautiful sunset I have ever seen in my life. The clouds were red, and over the yellowish and green plains was just serene while cruising down I 80.

Western Montana, western Wyoming, and idaho panhandle is probably my favorite place in the country. Glacier NP is the most beautiful NP imo, plus Yellowstone and Grand Teton NPs are amazing places to see. National forests everywhere, amazing lakes, canyons, rivers, mountains, and awesome little towns, even the bigger cities of the area like Cour d alane, Missoula, Bozeman, Billings, Butte and Helena are all stunning in their own ways.

North Dakota has pocket places within the state worth visiting. Western ND with both the North and South units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Fort Union near Williston. Turtle mountains and Lake Metegoshie region. I think most people just think of Fargo or Grand Forks and do not go any further west than those 2 small cities. Bismarck is a very nice Capitol City with a wonderful state museum on the capitol grounds...also Fort Lincoln state park across the river in Mandan, ND. Missouri river, Lake Sakakawea. Yeah, there are places to see and do in ND.
