A day in the life of Japanese Politician in Tokyo Japan. We follow a Tokyo Politician from from morning until evening to show her workday giving insight on Japanese work culture and Japanese culture in general. We also see Japanese working hours and would it would be like to work in Japan as a politician. Specifically, we will be following a Kugikaigiiin, in English, a City Council Member in Minato-ku in Tokyo. Confusingly, the term Ku in English means ward, a subdivision of a city, yet in Tokyo all of the 23 wards, like Minato-ku, are classified as cities since they’re equally independent and governed like a city even with their own mayor. Hence it's called Minato City. There are 34 council members in Minato city, directly elected by Citizens every 4 years. City Council members, decide on matters such as budgets, ordinances & deliberate and decide on municipal policies, all the while, working closely with the Mayor. This term, 13 out of the 34 members are women, one of the highest representation of women city council members in Japan. In fact, only 10.2 % Japan’s Diet members are women, the lowest in the G20. Our city council member is Ayumi Enomoto, also a working Japanese mom with Japanese baby. She shares how she raises her baby and works at the same time. She works at Minato city hall in a typical japanese office. As a Japanese worker in a government office, you'll be able to see what this type of work in Japan would be like. Also, we visit Nagatacho area where the National Diet building and Diet members are located. Ayumi belongs to the Tokyo branch of the Democratic Party For the People. I hope you enjoy this Day in the Life of Politician and don't forget to check out my other Japan Day in the Life videos.

"I want to make Japan a better place. I thought I'd be the one to make that change. That's why I stepped forward." Man, what a boss!

If a day in the life of a politician video was filmed in my country, it would have ended after breakfast.

I just love the respect and politeness given and shown to one another in Japan. The whole world should learn from them.

It is so refreshing to see a politician so humble and respectful of his/her constituents, the office and the public's resources. No waste of taxpayers' money on extravagent means of transportation, fancy office etc. She is a great role model.

Day of the life of an Eastern European politician:
13:00: Wakes up, has lunch and beer in the local restaurant
14:00: Goes home
15:00-20:00: Thinks of how to steal more money
3:00: goes to bed

Politicians in Japan: *using public transport to reach office, walking to reach places for serving the people*
Politicians in my country: *Jamming the busiest of the busy streets with their convoy of 10s of cars to attend a wedding, stealing public money*

Paolo: Ayumi does not have time in the morning to prepare dishes

Ayumi: Cuts nori to make a smiley face on the food

she even walks around with civilians and hears them out directly meeting them... such a huge difference from our country and how our politicians handle things

Well, a politician in Japan takes the bus to go to work. Here in Bulgaria (which is in the EU) using public transport is considered shameful by city council members, so they get the latest luxury cars the could put their hands on. What a difference in the governing mentality. No wonder Japanese are doing so well. Great video as always!

OK, I know she has a toddler...but how is she functioning on just 4.5hrs of sleep a night AND working as a politician??? The woman has stamina!

it was such a pleasant surprise how humble she was. she'd take the bus to work, eat lunch with her interns, talk directly to citizens etc. it would be nice if more politicians had this mentality.

Amazing how she meets with people DIRECTLY and actually at least tackles the problems. In my home country Poland politicians never get out of their offices and if they do, it is either on rallies or ceremonies. They are so disconnected from people.

It's weird to see politicians actually doing what they should do. Respect for her 👍
