Quarter tones are actually one of the main distinguishing characteristics between Western scales and Arabic scales

You should come to Mexico and visit the museum/house of belated Mexican composer Julián Carrillo! He's one of the pioneers of microtonal music in the world and has lots of third, quarter, eighth and much more tone division pianos in there! There is also a microtonal harp as well.

Grand pianos, like many other pianos, have rows of new keys behind the main ones, ready to replace any that break off. When the piano bites, it shakes its head side-to-side which sometimes leads to damaged keys.

It’s like the pianos that show up in my weird dreams.

Actually, the quarter note idea is not only applied to this piano. In Eastern music, we have string instruments such as the Tar and Oud that also use quarter tones. Quarter tones play a crucial role in Eastern music, and this is the main difference between Eastern and Western music. I know it might sound strange when you imagine it, but believe me, it sounds amazing. Playing this type of piano would be hard, though. However, there are some applications where musicians use digital keyboards and amplifiers to achieve that sound. If you want to get a taste of it, I recommend listening to the album Mugam by Etibar Asadli. To understand the logic of the album, first listen to the opening track. Beyond that, Arshin Mal Alan is my favorite piece from the album; it has been derived from the operetta by Uzeyir Hajibeyov.

Charles Ives was involved with the development of the quarter tone piano. I love this, it sounds great.

This is cool and allows you to play many middle eastern songs that use quarter tones!

Those ascending arpeggios remind me of Wyschnegradsky's 24 Preludes in
quarter-tone system

Great that you had the opportunity to play it, and that they actually keep it (reasonably) in tune and let folks play it.

Haba, Wychnegradsky and Ives pioneered these kinds of pianos, but there are a few similar instruments, such as the electronic version at the Sibelius Institute in Finland (also with 24 keys), the reconstructions of Vicentino's 31- and 36-key harpsichords and organs, and of course Bosanquet's 53-note 90-odd key organ locked up in a museum...

By the way, 24-equal offers some really interesting extensions of western harmony, even though it doesn't really improve approximation of the usual intervals and chords involving the first few primes 2, 3, 5 [and 7] to some extent). However it features some interesting harmonies involving primes 11, 13, 31 and 37 for some otherworldly sounds. Interestingly, 12-equal also nails primes 17 and 19, so we also get all the interesting combinations like 11:17, 11:19, 10:13, 13:17, 13:19, 19:31, etc.

A partial harmonic series like

Would be very keen to see you get into microtonality Nahre, and keen to give you some tips if you want to explore that field, as you're always looking into different fields, and I don't think I've seen you explore this one yet! Folks would love it

Please check out an instrument called "the fluid piano". It doesn't have an extra set of keys, but you can microtonaly adjust every key on the fly.

Woah that first groove was just ridiculous, I'm hoping that's like a teaser trailer for something you're making with microtones
