Patience - Who has time for that? | Qaas Shoukat | TEDxNSU

In the fast-paced, technology-saturated world we live in today, many resources and services are readily available through the internet. What may have taken a long time in the past is now achieved in mere moments. We have grown accustomed to getting what we want, when we want it. Yet, technology has not been able to speed up everything. It is within this gap that we are living—in a state of increasing impatience—as we seek instant gratification in every facet of life, yet are forced to wait for those beyond our control.

Qaas Shoukat is an NSU freshman who was born and raised in Pakistan before moving to Florida in 2010. Shoukat’s experience of living in two different cultures has given him a unique perspective on life and, he believes, has helped shape his personality. While the differences between his homeland and his new home took time to adjust to, Shoukat has found ways to appreciate and adopt the American way of life while holding on to his cultural roots. In his home and on social media, Shoukat stays connected through his native language, Urdu, and he still enjoys Pakistani music and films. In high school, he stepped outside his comfort zone to join both the Theatre Department and the Health Science Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Club. Participating in these groups allowed him to pursue his diverse passions for science and the performing arts. Now in college, Shoukat is advancing his experience and knowledge in these areas as a biology major pursuing a minor in theatre.

It's funny because when I was searching through the videos I was going to go with the one with the least amount of time.

I think his point is not that we should unnecessarily drag things, but we should recognize and respect that some valuable things take time and we can't realize the reward of the process if we don't accept the wait.

He is so young, yet this is the most enthused I have ever been by a presentation. It flowed so well. I hope to hear more speeches from him!

If we’re not careful, it will take a near drastic experience for society to really understand the value of patience.

There's always someone screaming at the end of EVERY Ted talk. LOL. Joking aside, I felt I'm impatient and thought that's wasting a lot of my life in procrastination so I searched this issue and I really love the way he started his talk talking about digital age. It just totally makes sense to me how technology has made me impatient. It's hard to admit because people will finally put the blame on you yourself (and they're right to some extent) but no one can say we're not affected by technology. Nice talk.

Am slow, I made myself slow, I react less, and only if I want, Over and above all the hard training that I've been through, everybody looks at me with fire in their eyes just cos they can't handle my no-reaction strategies .this hurts a bit ..cos they're pushing you backwards while you tryna to push forward .so literally I enjoyed this TEDtalk and yes I liked the opening part☝... that's an Ace ♠

With today technology people can get what they want when they want it. Patience is easily forgettable since everything can be delivered and ordered from your phone. Society isn’t helping as we expect technological growth at a faster rate than what is possible. The world is changing but it takes time and patience.
