Welcome to the place where I share dementia tips, strategies, and information for family members caring for a loved one with any type of dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy Body dementia, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, etc.)

In this video, I talk about how self care works. If you are frustrated that you are feeling stressed despite practicing self-care, this video is for you. Not only do I talk about how self-care works in your life, I talk about a new way to view and think about challenging caregiver moments. I hope it can help.

In case you haven’t met me, my name is Natali Edmonds and I am a board certified geropsychologist. That means that I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with older adults. One day, while hiking a trail, I came up with the idea for Careblazers and I decided to see if posting videos online could provide help to the many other Careblazers in the world who don’t get to have help come directly to them in their homes. I hope that this work helps you in some way on your caregiving journey.

Self Care for Dementia Caregivers is tough especially if have more than one responsibility, and/or siblings/family telling u what to do -- you give so much of yourself and forget about taking care of yourself.. ALL of you all are the real MVP's

To be fair, a person has to have time to care for self. Some folk haven't any spare time. But it certainly is a huge perk to those who have that time.

I can't sleep, i barely eat, lost 3 kilos in 2 months. I don't have the time for me. I have a duty to fulfil. It won't be worse than a war. Thank you for this.

I've experienced seeing caregivers of dementia patients in our family.
They end up sacrificing their own health and well being, it's tough because it's difficult to navigate through in getting professional help.
It's very sad because I've seen care takers end up with dementia themselves as a result of all the stress and lack of rest.
My wife and our family are currently caring for a dementia stricken parent. Not too long ago she was a caretaker for her husband with dementia. Unfortunately the whole family suffers and normal life is put on hold.
I hope there is a break through to help prevent dementia, alzheimers etc.

In the discussion about caregivers I would like to hear more about the miriad and spectacular ways people implode because of the relentless stress, anxiety, grief and depression, feelings of helplessness and dislocation. I found the pain so great I sort escape from anyplace I could find it. Obviously this created a lot of pain for loved ones around me.( Loved ones who weren't around to help by the way) . The general understanding that caregivers are the second patient and should be regarded as such needs to be more widely understood and accepted. As does the notion of Acting Out and Anticipatory Grief. Thanks for listening. Ruth

I'm very happy to find this channel! I'm not the caregiver, my mom is. She takes care of my grandma who has Alzheimer's. I am from Brazil and my mom don't speak English, therefore she won't understand your videos. But I've decided to search about it because my grandma is having a lot more of anger moments, she hallucinates, she wants to go home, so many things. It's getting worse, my mom is the only caregiver, and she's forgetting to take care of herself, so she is becoming stressed and she is not being able to deal with my grandma as well as she could. I'm trying to talk to her, convince her to find moments to take care of her, but she always has an excuse. Now I downloaded the careblazer survival guide in the hope that I can help my mom help herself. So thank you very much for your videos, I was lost on what I could do, but now I am learning where to start. Thank you! 😊

I’m a caregiver and your information is very valuable. I’m currently looking into taking the course as my wife was just dx’d at 54 with frontotemporal dementia.

One of my problems is getting my mum to accept her limitations without her being upset. She is 91, has multiple co-morbidities, has LBD and is registered blind. She wants to do all the household chores that she used to do, and every day I find a small task, even if it is slightly risky, but she's not happy

Thank you so much for your videos. They are so helpful. Please can you do a video on dealing with hallucinations, especially without having to lie to my mum? I'm desperate.

Your right. My husband just passed away and now I am still stressed and not feeling well. I miss taking care of him or just being with him..I sometimes think he is trying to pull me toward him.
