AirPower24 AirShow Austria 2024 (Zeltweg Flughafen) - Day 3, Samstag/Saturday - F-18, F16, C-130

With great pleasure, for the first time, I attend the AirPower24 Airshow in Austria at the Hinterstoisser Air Base in Zeltweg. We are in Styria, a state in the southeast of Austria, just a few kilometres from the Red Bull Ring circuit. This event and the English Riat are the largest air show open to the public in Europe. It has a rich program of spectacular ground performances, flight demonstrations of the Austrian Air Force, international military aerobatic squadrons, and European civil aviation participants. To give you an idea, in this 2024 edition, about 300,000 visitors are expected, 200 civil and military aircraft from 20 different nations. Among the very popular flight shows/displays will be those of fighter jets such as the F-35, F-18, F-16, Eurofighter Typhoon and Saab JAS39 Gripen. Again, there is great interest in Messerschmitt Me109 and Me262, Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Airbus A400M and helicopters such as Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk and Bell AH-1F/209 "Obra" aircraft. Also, many shows from the Swiss Aerobatic Team. In this third and final general video, referring to Saturday, I was on the external hill opposite the airport to have a different shooting point. Con grande piacere, per la prima volta, assisto all'Airshow AirPower24 in Austria presso l'Hinterstoisser Air Base a Zeltweg. Ci troviamo nella Stiria, un land del sud-est dell'Austria, davvero a pochi chilometri dal circuito Red Bull Ring. Questa manifestazione, assime al Riat Inglese è il più grande show di aerei aperto al pubblico in Europa con un ricco programma di spettacolari performance a terra, dimostrazioni in volo dell'Aeronautica militare austriaca e di squadroni acrobatici militari internazionali e partecipanti dell'aviazione civile europea. Per darvi un'idea, in questa edizione 2024 sono attesi circa 300.000 visitatori, 200 aerei civili e militari provenienti da 20 nazioni differenti. Tra gli show/display in volo molto ammerati saranno quelli dei jet da combattimento quali F-35, F-18, F-16, Eurofighter Typhoon e Saab JAS39 Gripen. Ed ancora, grande interesse per Messerschmitt Me109 e Me262, Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Airbus A400M ed elicotteri come Aereo Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk e Bell AH-1F/209 “Cobra”. Inoltre tanto spettacolo anche dalla Pattuglie Acrobatica Svizzera. In questo terzo ed ultimo video generale, riferito alla giornata di Sabato, sono stato nella collina esterna dalla parte opposta dell'aeroporto per avere un punto differente di ripresa. My friend worked for Raytheon missle group after they purchased Hughes Missle. He used to get sent to European countries that bought missiles from Raytheon for their fighters. He was the guy that designed the guidance systems for the cruise missile. I remember one time they sent him to Sweden for the fighters they were given from the US. He was sent to make sure the missiles they sent fitted the fighters.

He sent me this sampler of aquavidt from Amsterdam. There were 12 little hotel sized bottles of the worst tasting liquor I have ever tasted. I've been a home Brewer for forty years. I never make anything that doesn't taste delicious. This stuff was so terrible, it ruined everything I tried to mix it with. It's basically moon shine, which is actually legal there.

I've actually made moon shine, but mine was delicious. The second distilling I used Grape Merlot, Manischewitz Grape, and Mogendavid Grape to add just a sweet slight after taste of grape. It was incredibly clean, and smooth. Better than any of the high end single malt scotch I enjoy. It was 170 proof. My favorite mix was to add blackberry syrup, and club soda. It was like drinking delicious grape soda, only it was 170 proof.

Finalmente con un cielo un po’ più blu si riescono a vedere perfettamente le sagome.
Mi ripeto…l’ F35 è davvero qualcosa di straordinario…Peccato per il suo costo.
Comunque oggi mi soffermo sulla Saab, che prima di costruire ottime auto costruiva (e costruisce…solo la divisione auto è fallita) ottimi aerei apprezzati in molti paesi esteri.
Il Gripen è un attaccante snello, veloce e implacabile…con però tutti limiti di un monomotore…comunque lo preferisco all’F16, un po’ perché è più “nostrano” rispetto ai soliti sistemi d’arma americani, e perché ha di fatto inaugurato la successiva generazione dei cacciabombardieri rispetto agli F16 che sono la massima espressione della generazione precedente mono motore.
Belli anche gli elicotteri acrobatici, quelli non li ho mai visti dal vivo…bel video!
