After joining an IT Dept that had zero documentation (all in the Director's brain, he'd been there 20 yrs and built everything in-house), I was hospitalized in my first 90 days. As their first Product Owner, charged with process improvements and unrealistic expectations, it impeded my progress in a brand new, very ambiguous, loosely defined role, working in an uncooperative environment. My boss has never "forgiven" me for getting ill, and I carry the scars, literally and figuratively, with me forever. It's very unfair. This video is accurate about the demands of leading a dept you're unfamiliar with, but I was hoping to find some advice for coping with and resetting unrealistic expectations (the "magic wand" theory)
