Wow. I've been waiting for an explanation of this design since the day it was launched. News articles couldn't do justice. Thank you!

“Known as a “haha”…

I’ll bet that is the most interesting thing I’ll have learned this week. (Yes, my life is pretty boring.)

Fun fact: the US owns the land all their embassies are on. The embassy in London used to be the only exception to this, because the UK refused to sell any of its central London land to a foreign country.
The US begrudgingly accepted this rule and had an embassy in the centre of London on UK soil.
But recently, the US changed its mind and they decided to build a new embassy a bit away from the centre of London on their own land.

Fun fact: The North Korean Embassy in Berlin operates a Hostel as a side hustle on their property.

Amazing. Old school building security which also is positive in terms of biodiversity, local climate and much more!

i'm sure not all are, but many US embassies are actually small fortresses that can be defended by their contingent of marines long enough for a relief team or evacuation to come. and the marines are usually equipped with anti-material weapons in their armory so that they can stand of heavy machinery like tanks and APC's if needed. i'm not saying one cannot be taken by force, i'm just saying they are usually hard nuts to crack

So it's literally protected by stars and stripes? Even as a Brit, I have to admit that's cool 😁

Previously you couldn't even bring any electronics or metal things (wallets, keys, phones etc) inside the building, you just had to leave them somewhere beforehand.

My mate just bought a flat literally across the road from this embassy; near the river and it's such a lovely view right to it. ❤

The previous one looked like something from 40k but with more eagle.

Your voice and qualities of speech, also your prep and presenting, are wonderful. A musician (piano teacher primarily), I learn much about entirely different fields of endeavour from your posts.

Typically, the US DOD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) requires as much as a 400 foot setback for blast protection from a six axle truck full of high explosives. We used this distance for facilities at Camp Williams Utah for the Utah NSA Data Center.
