Good morning.

The UN Environment Assembly approved a resolution that's being dubbed 'the most significant green deal since the 2015 Paris climate agreement'. Tell us more.

That's right. The UN Environment Assembly on Wednesday approved a resolution to create the world's first-ever global plastic pollution treaty,... meaning work will now begin to set out legally binding rules on plastic waste,... and should be finalized by the end of 2024.
With the approval,... the 175 UN delegates in Nairobi agreed to negotiate the first steps toward curbing plastic pollution,... and comes as member states held talks for over a week to fight the soaring problem.
Plastic production has been on the rise exponentially in the past decade,... and now amounts to some 400 million tons per year,... a figure that's expected to double by 2040.
The latest agreement also creates a road map for treaty negotiations that are set to begin in May.
